Forums - Nintendo - New Wii due by 2011

2012 please.

I do not understand why so many industry folks have been sucked into this WiiHD as a small upgrade, then a proper upgrade a few years later.

If it is simply upscaling the games to 1080p, then it will make little difference to the quality of games.

If it requires developers to release what is essentially 2 games on 1 disc, then they won't. They would either support the SDWii or not support the Wii at all. It would also mean that games are reduced to about a third of the length, due to requiring mutiple sets of textures.

And to make it even more stupid an idea. If the Wii is made to output in native 1080p, without being made more powerful, then it will have to display in a game breaking number of FPS, or it will reduce the amount of things that can be displayed on screen to such an extent that the HDWii games look worse than SDWii games.

Trust me, the next Ninty console will be in 2012, and will be a full upgrade from the Wii (though it will be backwards compatible with Wii games)

i think they will drop the wii for their next console release. nintendo stands well enough on it's own.

i would be surprised if it came out '11... '12 seems more likely (at least in NA).

I think we'll see the HD version of the Wii in 2010 which will enable Wii games to be played in hd and that is really the only difference that I think it will have to the current Wii. Kind of like the GBA SP and DS Lite, then I think we'll see the real Wii 2 -- more advanced tech, etc, somewhere between 2012 and 2014

There is very little point to that.... the only advantage it will have is that it will ease compatibility/set-up issues with HD tvs.

Although I am no tech expert so it may actually cause some games to look worse because on the disc they are native 480p... though I suppose this new Wii would have an upscaler or something.

Even so, it won't make Wii games look any different than on an SD television.

As for this news... I call it BS, Nintendo is never the first to the market so it would only come out in 2011 if Sony/MS were bringing theirs out too, and Nintendo keeps secrets a hell of a lot better than those two companies too, so we would have heard leaks of the new XB/PS first.

I think 2010 because that is about when Japanese tv goes digital, there was an article here last year with Miyamoto saying Nintendo was looking at that very seriously because they "have to keep up with technologies", and it would let them keep the $250.00 price tag when customers start thinking why has the Wii had this price for so long? That said, as I mentioned before I think Wii HD and Wii 2 are two different consoles.

digital is not the same as HD..... HD is a resolution, digital is a way of sending the signal to your TV.

There will not be a Wii HD in the sense of a standard Wii that can output higher definition.... it wouldn't work (read scotties post)

I can't keep doing this on my own with these... people.

Liars, they talk shit and we jump, they do not know what theyre talking about and ill tell you why. Nintendo don't tell anyone anything, they would not show tech off two years ahead of release and they are certainly way too busy selling their current system.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I think it will be a real WII 2 and if its 2011 that will be limited japan only. I think 2012, think about it building an HD more powerful wii for $250.00 will be simple with the advances in tech in the past couple of years

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

I agree that Nintendo will use the "Wii" name for their next generation console. Maybe "Super Wii" like Super NES :P
