Forums - Nintendo - Family Group Slams Nintendo over Madworld game

This is just "casuals" thinking that they rule what goes on the Wii. Dont try to nudge out the "core" market. It's been Nintendo's bread and butter for years.

Just casuals ? If it weren't for these millions and millions so-called 'just casuals', the Wii would have never been as successful as it is today.

This is the other side of the knife: The casuals adopted the Wii as their favorite and child-friendly console, and now these M-rated games kick in for the 'hardcores', ofcourse those people start complaining.
They also complain when all of a sudden cable-companies broadcast x-rated movies at times when children are normaly watching e-rated cartoons or educational programs.

For the 'casuals', this is the same kind of situation.

Stuff like this is also indicative of how bad the public perception of video games is getting. Every time I think games are beginning to get accepted by the rest of the world, some bizarre law is passed, or some misinformed/misguided parents group gets a lot of media attention.

Video games are in a very similar position as comic books in the 1950s after Frederic Wertham published Seduction of the Innocent.

For those of you unfamiliar with this book, it created a moral panic by arguing that comic books encourage delinquent behavior in children because comics contained gratuitous violence, gore, horror, crime, sex, bondage, drug use, murder, etc.

Sound familiar?

The result was the Comics Code Authority, which forced published comics to self censor (publishers weren't legally obligated to use the Code, but distributors would not carry a comic not endorsed by the CCA).

These are dangerous times for video games. For some reason, no one can wrap their heads around the fact that many games are not intended for children, and that people with addictive personalities probably shouldn't play games.

If something doesn't happen soon, video games are going to be marginalized into oblivion, or at least watered down into an uncreative shell of lost potential.

It started out well with the line

"While the group reminds parents to pay attention to what video games their children play"

And then took a nosedive somewhere around

"Unfortunately, Nintendo opened its doors to the violent video game genre. The National Institute on Media and the Family hopes that Nintendo does not lose sight of its initial audience and continues to offer quality, family-friendly games."

It's not Ninty's responsibility to look after your children!

I hope Nintendo makes an official statement to this, and I hope Reggie does this.

Well, your children can't play what you don't buy. The M rating prevents it from being sold to children.

Exactly. "The Wii" isn't one experience. Are DVDs not 'family-friendly' simply because R-rated films exist?

I feel inclined to quote this analogy, for this is the essense of what ppl must get in their heads.

How about this one:

Walmart isn't family friendly AT ALL they sell KNIVES!!!

KNIVES!!! don't kill people, people off their medication do.

I am a gamer dad do its pretty easy for me to regulate which games my kids can ad should play but seriously look at the box if its M dont let your kid play it not that hard. Thats why we have a rating system

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

At first I thought you were wfz posting when I was scrolling quickly down through the thread then I realized the pic was about 10 times larger.

On topic:  Like many said it is up to the parents to regulate considering there is a rating system in place to notify them about each game.

I mean that these casuals think of the Wii as some new invention that just started gaming, without realizing that Nintendo is indebted to tons of "core" fans who have supported them during and prior to the Wii. They think that these "serious" games are a new thing on the market without doing their research. Nintendo has to cater to more than just a casual collection, especially because they are a flighty bunch, leaving no guarantees that they will buy a Wii 2. The core Nintendo fans will buy Wii 2, so alienating them would be destructive for Nintendo.
