What about ToV was unpolished? I've never had any frame issues (despite a dozen+ enemies on screen, while using many artes), has almost no loading times, and so on. It's the most polished JRPG the X360 offers.

LO was 'mostly' polished, compared to other JRPGs on the 360, but was less polished than PS2 counterparts.

   I've run into that every game I've played, I don't know why its still a problem, the 360 has been out how long now?  going on 4 years?

   I don't know why every single 360 JRPG feels half finished and rushed.  Every one of them screams "we had to get it out the door by the deadline and just did it".  I mean not every PS2 RPG was good (Magna Carta, Ephemeral Phantasia ect) but there were many with very high production values and a high level of polish even just two years or so after the system came out.  Final Fantasy X, Shadow Hearts (esp the first 2), Dark Cloud 1 and 2, the Suikoden games ect ect.

   When is the quality going to come on line?  I don't even just mean on the 360, the PS3's library is just as bad (unless White Knight comes out here and is awesome) at the moment.  The way its looking the only good games are going to be a bunch of PC styled WRPGs like Mass Effect, Dragon Age and the Witcher (which I think is coming to consoles, and does in fact own).

   I mean these JRPGs which are mainly dispoable can't have had way less production time then Mass Effect can they?  Where's the quality that was all over the place in the PS1 and PS2 eras?  If anyone told you there wouldn't be a single good polished JRPG over 3 and a half years into the next generation after how awesome things were 3-4 years into the last two generations would you believe them?

   Every other genre has reached new pinacles of awesome this generation from 3rd person action (MGS4, Uncharted) to Shooters (Killzone 2, Gears of War) to Sports Games (MLB the show is awesome as is the newest Madden most of the time) to racing games (GT5:P is amazing looking and fun) to just about every other genre...except JRPGs which are being outdone by the Persona games on the LAST gen consoles.

   I would think almost everyone who has played most of the recent JRPGs would have to agree that Persona 3 is the best thing to come out of the last few years with Persona 4 up there as well.  The only real bright spot is Valkaria Chronicles which is awesome, but a lot of people won't say thats a JRPG (due to the heavy strategy component), other then that, playing next gen JRPGs is almost as painful as watching the Chicago Cubs.  Square Enix should visit Bioware and learn from the Mass Effect team (like aparantly Hideo Kojima learned from US shooters for MGS4).  Maybe then we can get some quality titles out of them finally.

     I haven't played either, but as a long time Square fan, I'm curious to know.  Also do you agree or disagree with the general critical consensus that these were bad games?

TLR

IU had its moments, but overall it was a rather bland action RPG.

The level of quality (and then effort) across the game wasn't equal. By the ending alone, you can tell they were trying to go ahead be done with it. The level of voice acting is very good for the main characters, but everyone else is pretty terrible. (I laughed whenever Zagi would speak)

Next, I'd say the animation the cutscenes wasn't very good either. What sticks out the most was from Ehmead Hill in the demo level. The little karate chop to the next thing, goodness. I think that Tales is the most polished 360 RPG, but that doesn't make a polished game.

(And Meteor Storm + Holy Lance + Luna Gale + Lone Wolf Storm = <10 FPS)

What do you expect from a fast pace REAL TIME battle system. Of course there are going to be some frame issues but other then that ToV was very well polished.

It is quite polished for a Tales game.

I just don't think it's quite up there with some other JRPGs in the same area.

I like both games, got them both for $50 last thanksgiving. I prefer IU, mainly because i'm a Tri-Ace fan, and i like everything by them.

@Ari_Gold

So true you can get both for the price of a brand new game. They are $30 a piece at Gamestop!
