I rememeber back in April (when Lair was gonna come out in June), this game was gonna "save the PS3." I guess domination is postponed for now.

Yeah, what a stupid move that was, as that seems to be the main complaint in every review. But I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't have alternate controls.
Did Sony have any control (no pun intended) over this? Some have speculated Sony may be rushing some of these games out too early (Heavenly Sword, Lair), could they also be insisting on sixaxis controls?
We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Ouch.
One of these things is not like the others.

I figured the game was permanently designed around the SixAxis. Like, you'll be using the joystick to do other stuff while steering with the SixAxis...so there's no way they could map the flying controls to the joystick...but I dunno.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
Ouch. A 4.9 review score on Lair sounds pretty bad and probably the lowest score ever on Lair to date.
This game was praised so much since E3 of 2005 and truns out to be a mess of a game from Factor 5 near release.
Hey, at least there's Heavenly Sword and Warhawk(out now) to enjoy.

| Zim said: Seriously if you read most hands on previews and watched gameplay videos it was pretty obvious Lair wasn't going to be a fantastic game. However saying that a 4.9 is incredibly low. Even Red Steel scored a 5.5(?), in fact also like red steel there is one insanely high review. I wonder if it's a similar case where the controls are bad but can still be coped with if you learn them. I was thinking it would be somewhere around 6-7 from ign. I wonder if gamespot will rate it higher or lower? Usually I think gamespot will rate things lower but in this case I could see them going quite a bit higher as gamespot always kinda seem more graphics focused to me. Factor 5 should stick to making games where you can't control any organic beings. Anyone remember the on foot sections in Rebel strike? Awful. It's kinda weird though. How often is there a game hyped for 2 and a half years( E3 2005 right?) that turns out to get reviews that low =/. Usually games that score that low are the ones that turn up suddenly. I wonder if Sony will try and distance themselves from this title as one of their big ones this year =S |
daikatana definitely springs to mind there
"As the sterling example of how gameplay always trumps graphics... Twilight Princess oozes quality and is our Game of The Year, 2007"
-Gametrailers
Well if Twilight Princess was the sterling example of gameplay > graphics then I think its safe to say LAIR is the gilded example. Yet I have no doubt that countless people will still refute this and say the opposite, that graphics are all that matter.
What more does it take to convince those people, really?

I just finished reading this thread...
1) The mods on this site needs to do an even better job of banning fanboys of all consoles, please. It seems like half the threads devolve into something like this.
*OR*
2) This site needs an "ignore user" feature, so users can more efficiently separate the interesting discussions / analysis from all the idiocy.

Ouch... a 4.9? And this was supposed to be an AAA title...

| On topic: I don't think Lair deserves a 4.9. The sound should've scored in the 9 to 10 range, cause I hear it's fantastic. And the presentation should've been marked a bit higher, me thinks. I think it deserves nothing less than a 6. It certainly can't be that bad of a game. At least, I would hope not ... |
