Forums - General - The % of Americans who claim no religion has nearly doubled in 18 years.

Mario is definitely an atheist. I think he is a hardcore psychedelic drug user myself.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. But in Super Paper Mario he's basically jesus.

Also.  How could someone that stereotypically Italian not be a Catholic?

according to that link, between 31 and 44% of the UK population now claim no religion, yet we have lots of religous interference in politics here...

In Galaxy he basically destroyed and created a whole galaxy, so I think the question here is "If Mario or a G-d is the most powerful thing in the universe and creates whole galaxies and believes in nothing greater than himself, is he an atheist?"  Is G-d atheist?

There also a lot of disenfranchised people like myself going back to the teachings and way of life of older religions. There are people going back to the old "hethen" pagan religions and other forms of spiritualism all the time. Hell I was raised devout catholic, and became Gnostic due to a falling out with my church.

All I can think of is on the simpsons when Homer visits got  a little plaque that says "I believe in me".

I'm not sure... but I'm leaning more towards Athiest than some Religion...

Thus the moral compass of this great nation has changed.

It's Christians' fault more than anything else. We have lost touch with many.
Also, I'm troubled by the fact that more Christians are going to mega-churches - I think this is directly related to the topic.

I believe in small local churches.

I agree with this post, although I don't necessarily think it is a bad thing that America is becoming less religious.
