Another thing about the MGS series: Since the gameplay is mediocre, I assume what most people like about it is the storyline. This is something I cannot understand and the reason I don't play JRPG's anymore is that games cannot have good storyline. If you want good storyline, you should pick up a book and read it. No game's story can compare to a book.

You ever notice that Zelda, Mario and Metroid games have all had simple storylines? Miyamoto realized that a game's focus should be on ...(wait for it)... gamplay. An elaborate storyline just takes budget away from parts of the game that needs the money.

MGS4 has perfect gameplay.

The Good

  • A brilliant mixture of storytelling and gameplay
  • Mind-blowing audiovisual presentation
  • Tight and compelling shooting mechanics
  • Gratifying stealth mechanics
  • Lots of cool gadgets and weapons that you can tailor to your own style of play.

Oh and I say that the gameplay is perfect too.

Im saying God of War

Being a cricket fan is much simpler and more fun

Counter Strike!! Just the fact that it is still being played by thousands each day and it doen't even have a story speaks volumes to its perfect gameplay.

I dare anyone find a game that its only appeal is 100% gameplay and not the story or characters or publisher/developer

Runner-up: Civilisation... so many happy memories

PSN ID: T_Gears

End of 2009 ltd sales:

Wii = 67-68m

well.... it depends on the person. There is not a "Best game" in reality. It's a matter of taste.

What i know is that Ocarina is claimed by all the media to be the Best game of all time. If there is a game that deserves that title, well...there you have it

Link or it didn't happen.

are u serious???? Do u really need a link????? are u new into this??? just by reference, the part of Ocarina in my sign. is from a recent article in IGN (Is OoT overrated)

I re-bolded the part of my statement which requires a link or did not happen. Think about how much video game media there is and how many people are involved in it. There is absolutley no possible way that all of them agree on what the best game of all time is. I have seen almost as many places give this title to Tetris as I have OOT.

@ Others - Franchises Miyamoto has given birth to: Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, F-Zero, Pikmin and Nintendogs, WiiSports, WiiFit and WiiMusic.

Franchises Kojima has worked on: MGS, ZOE.

Now, while my favorite game ever was made by Kojima, no game developer can even hold a candle to Shigeru.

thats a good point, but mgs4 love stems from other things to like the end of the series and all that jazz

also, you gotta admit stories that are big arent a "waste" a lot of them end up being really good

its also like the definitive game to love if youre a real gamer or something like that

i agree with u on the gameplay thing though

I dont agree with the gameplay thing, you cant say its perfect but its really complex and awesome, you can play the game in many ways.

Story is great, and about your book comment, books cant have soundtracks nor visuals, thats a big thing in a game like MGS4, and going by your point of view  we shouldnt even be watching movies, just reading, and thats not cool.

And the lack of substance in storylines in games u listed is why I dont like them, if it where for just gameplay I would play snake in my cell phone, fun, but not great.

Well, I haven't played the game, so I can't really argue with you.  I only have Yatzee to go by.  Many people say that he is too hard on games.  I believe he has high standards.  Also, the qualities he looks for in games are also the qualtites I look for in games.  He says that the story is long winded and doesn't make much sense.  He says that there is more action than stealth in the games, but the controls are more geared towards stealth controls than action.  This leads to more cumbersome action gameplay.  Also, he says that snake is bogged down with a bunch of tools he does not need since the tranquelizer gun has infinite ammo.

I will say again that I have not played the game.  But I trust Yatzees review.  The real test to see if it is "the best game of all time" it whether or not we are talking about it in 5 years.  Right now, the hype may be too much for people to view it in a non-biased sense.

Best game of all time? hmmm.....would have to combine alot of things and not miss out. Single Player and Multiplayer should be extremely good. If I could pick a package I might say the Orange Box.

My personal favorite game is much easier: Earthbound.
