@snyperdud, what were you doing in 1994 when Dave Halverson was publishing and Nick Rox was writing reviews of Treasure Hunter-G, etc in America's Famitsu Diehard Gamefan? In their review of kotor in 2003, they said kotor was the best ever Western attempt at making a jrpg, but kotor's music and art direction really weren't strong enough for it to surpass FFX-2 or Xenosaga 1 which had a much better story, and the game's repetive character models with interchangeable heads proved to be a distraction that took away from the game's overall experience.

KOTOR was not an attempt at making a JRPG.

What the Hell makes you think that it is? Do you know where RPGs came from?

@khuutra, it just shows that Halverson and Rox expierience in the business gives them a better footing from which to evaluate these games in their current magazine -- Play Magazine -- than most of the other writers in the business.

No, no it does't, that's ridiculous. Being around for a long time saying stupid thigns like "kotor was the best ever Western attempt at making a jrpg" is nothing more than being around for a long time saying stupid things.

Well, first,I don't think Jrpg's are any better than Wrpg's.So imo KotOR was a great attempt at making a great game.

Secondly,It was a Star War's game that featured Star War's style music(which it great btw).Music and art direction don't make an RPG anyway.

Third, did you even play it?All you have stated is what Play-magazine has said.

Again,every one's opinion is different.

rps evolved from d and d. Then the computer rpgs and fantasy novels of the eighties. kotor is much more of an attempt to make a character driven rpg like an ssi goldbox rpg of the eighties or a jrpg than it is at making a more typical western rpg like morrowind or oblivion. however, for the reasons listed above it fails to do this as well as the other rpgs I mentioned.

I feel that a Tales game should be on this list (Abyss or Symphonia). I haven't played most games on the list though, so it's hard to judge for me.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

You have not listed any reasons related to this - and the fact that you could actually roleplay in it differentiates it from JRPGs immensely.

Did you even play the game?

i played kotor. it had very boring characters and liked to cheat at cards. its only redeaming feature was that you could see Bastilla Shan in her underwear, but when you have Yuna, Rikku, and Paine in FFX-2, and Kos-Mos in Xenosaga episode 1 that isn't such a big deal.

I bet he didn't.

Anyway, how is Dungeous and Dragons even relevent in the conversation?RPG's may have evovled from it's concept's...but again...not relevent.

I personally felt Knight of the Old Republic was a vastly superior game. That is my opinion.

d and is relevant because you asked if i knew where rpgs came from.
