Forums - Nintendo - Resident Evil remake rumor question.

So the rumors are a Wii remake of Resident Evil 2 or RE: Code Veronica right?

A lot of people are expecting or at least want a remake of these games in the over the shoulder view of RE4. I mainly dismissed these rumors but after listening to the GoNintendo podcast Im pretty convinced.

Anyways the thought of these games being remade in the RE4 style is ridiculous. In the podcast they mentioned that they may get the Resident Evil 1 GCN remake treatment.

Basically Code Veronica or RE2 would get a huge graphical upgrade and basically all the stuff that first RE remake got.

So anyone else expecting this?

Probably. Capcom sees the Wii the way Square Enix sees the DS, a place for remakes and fan-service, while the serious content goes elsewhere, and such projects would be ideal

It would be hard to re-do RE2 in an RE4 kind of way, because 2 was all about the Survival Horror in its purist sense, so somethign similar to RE1 is equally plausible

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

i think it would be a gamble to revamp re 2 and re cv in the gc remake style. i never liked playing the series until re 4 because there was so much more freedom with aiming. the old mechanics of the series are just too outdated. i remember when i did play the second game, i hated it. i would buy an re 4 style remake of those games but not a re gc style remake. still, a remake at all would be really cool.

As long as its not Umbrella Chronicles II.

I'm starting to wonder if Nintendo think they made a tactical mistake with the Wii. The GC got all (most) of the cross-platform XBOX/PS2 games - but the Wii isn't (and it can't).

Will companies be happy to go "backwards" technologically? Could RE6 appear on the Wii?

How about a rebooted RE (original) - although RE2 would work better - playing at a much slower pace, much more about horror - maybe even with balance board (movement) & Motion+ support?

Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:

Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099

Coming from Capcom, most likely both games will be straight ports, unfortunately.

If they do remake 2 and/or CV I'd rather they took the Resdent Evil GC remake approach. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Resident Evil 4 but 4 is fundamentally different from 0/1/2/3/CV. As much as I like RE4 I also miss the old style. Resident Evil 4 just didn't have the tension of the classic games - partly because the camera switched from a static view to over the shoulder.

They knew what they were getting into. Someone here has that quote in their sig (forget who), but Iwata knew that things would get tough

I'm really anticipating a RE2 remake in the style of the RE1 remake on the GC. That would really make sure my Wii got some good old play time.

if the rumours are true then they would have spent around a year to 18 months working on it already and we still haven't got an announcement.

If we say a q3 release this year (if its true) then that could be about 24 months development time if they started straight after RE4 / Umbrella Chronices success in late 07, this is bearing in mind Umbrella chronices was knocked out in less than that time I think this is too much time being spent than just a polish.

RE2 needs the old controls, which is fine. They only need to change the controls so that up=up in the screen and not in the direction the character is looking.

If they make RE2 REmake as gorgeous as REmake and improve the controls like stated above I'll buy it instantly. REmake is by far the best game in the series and RE2 is a fantastic game.
Chance of this happening is pretty low, due to Code Veronica rumours.

Code Veronica was the first RE to feature a full 3D world (later Capcom returned to pre-rendered with REmake and Zero), so could definitely work with RE4Wii controls. Yes, some additional enemies etc need to be included, but the storyline of Veronica is good (it's actually RE3, but Sony urged Capcom to keep the numbered games on PlayStation, hence 3 Nemesis) and there's a lot of room to incorporate some extra storylines. A full Veronica remake would be great, especially with Wiimote controls.

A fully new sequel to Veronica is also an option, as it would explain what Chris did between that and RE5. RE4 Gaiden wouldn't hurt, as currently that game doesn't really fit into the mythology and it could explain what Wesker did with the plagas.

I'm expecting one of the above AND UC2. UC2 is inevitable and great, but only if a full game is released as well.
