Forums - Nintendo - Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop isn't so bad...

Ok so I finally got my hands on Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop, now by no means am I going to sing the praises of this game, but it shouldn't get bashed as much as it does.

It does seem rather rushed and cuts a few corners, but the fun parts of Dead Rising on 360 is still there, and on top of that you've got a few improvements like Otis not badgering you, an arrow to help you find your way around, and the RE4 controls are just a few nice improvements.

The game does lack the photography parts, of which I wasn't fond of on the original Dead Rising, and now leveling is done by the carnage of killing zombies much like I expected of the original.

The graphics aren't going to wow you like RE4, but I do think it's a little unfair to compare the two games just because they use the same engine, on one hand you have RE4 a game with rather restricted spaces, a lot of up close and personal fights with fewer zombies, a lot of grit, and had a full development cycle, which allows for everything to be optimized and looking smooth.

The other hand you have a clean looking mall, open areas, lots of zombies, and a short development cycle and probably given to one of their smaller teams to make, and for what it's worth it carries the feel of the original just there obviously could have been more, but my point is to put it in perspective before you go a blast it for not looking as good as RE4, to me the original Dead Rising didn't stun me visually like RE4 did and still does, RE4 is just one of those games that will stand the test of time and 10 years down the road you can go back to it and still love how it looks and plays.

Really it's not amazing, which the original wasn't either, but it's a nice 20 dollar game that you could have fun with, at 40 it's not bad just cause there's a lot worse you could spend your money on (or you could buy Okami for 20 now just a suggestion :P)

or you can pick the better version (360), for cheap :)

I heard that parts of the mall were blocked off, is that true?

Also, good God-- proof read and press the enter key every now and then. :-p

Ahaha sorry late night writing tends to do that to me, I ramble a lot XD (been up late working, then playing Dead Rising, plus I have church in the morning so I'm heading off after this)

Edit: @ your question, yeah I just started noticing that, like you know how the mall will have a lot of benches, and just overall normal mall stuff in the middle of the paths?  Well on some areas you have the right side blocked off so it diverts you to the other side and you'll have a mass of zombies spawned there, which probably helps with the zombie count I suspect.

If you haven't played both versions doesn't seem like your opinion matters much :)

There are blockades, but from what everyone says, they just cut off a left or right side of some paths that still lead the same way. No area or room is actually cut off.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

the game does look really different than the gameplay vids capcom released

there is way more zombies than what the videos showed and it looks better

the only thing i didnt like were those zombies with the weapons, they looked horrible

I've only met 3 like that and they died within a few seconds and I took their knives and started shiving other zombies with them.

It is better then what I saw video wise, but there is a ton of pop in, though I've noticed if you run through the mall you're more likely to get what you see in the videos like the low number of zombies, if you stop to look around in a store, most likely when you go out there will be a mass of zombies and by the time you take those out there will be another mass of zombies in front of you, etc.  You basically don't have zombies if you cheese your way through and just run away... oddly enough...

I just rented this myself, and I agree.....its really fun. Its not a perfect game by any means, but people keep trying to make it seem like a shovelware title, and it is not.

Yeah that would be really discouraging to me as a developer if I kept hearing that when there was work and effort put into Dead Rising, it's just obvious they didn't have the time to polish as well as it could have been, deadlines and limited budgets do that.
