Forums - Gaming - So Can I expect to play any Square-Enix games in my PS3 this year?

Last game I bought that was developed by S-E was kingdom hearts 2 and it was fantastic but I haven't bought any of their game this gen yet so I dunno if the quality of games that they release this gen became horrible.

There is only one current gen game developed by SE. And it's The Last Remnant. Made by SaGa team, a series that has always been trashed by western critics.

Many people on the internet, however, ignore this fact on purpose in order to make "SE's games quality sucks nowadays!!" claims.

  1. If you live in Japan you might see FFXIII this year but that's an awful big maybe.  Personally I don't think it's going to happen.
  2. To you people saying SO4 bombed-- RPG's (especially JRPG's that don't have Final Fantasy in the title) generally don't sell well. 200k is respectable.  Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see the JRPG go the way of the point and click adventure.

You could say that 200k respectable speech if we say new IPs or regular JRPG franchises, but, this is STAR OCEAN, not at the heights of the huge ones: Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, but its one of the ones that manage to pass the million line...

Look at Star Ocean: Till the End of Time sales:

Japan: 500k (400k first week)

US: 740k (Probably between 250k and 500k first week)

EU: 90k

Total: 1.33M (1.24M with only Japan+US)

Now look at Star Ocean: The Last Hope sales:

Japan: 185k (160k first week)

US: 60k first week (With a 16.58 million userbase, it's not like Japan)

Total: 245k

If the game continues to sell like this in the US and Japan, i'll be surprised if it gets to half of SO3 numbers, and that's really bad for the franchise...

I think the most unrealistic aspect of all these fanboy posts is the belief that all these RPG fans are somehow only on Sony systems even though the games they love are mostly on other systems. This may be true in Japan (thought they are on the wii there too as well) but it sure as hell is not true in America. Seriously, I find it hard to believe that rpg fans are somehow more loyal to sony that to the games they love. It is not too hard to sell a ps3 and get a 360. And if they are more loyal to sony, well, that is their problem and its their own fault they are not playing many rpgs this gen.

Now Playing: The Witcher (PC)

Consoles Owned: NES, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, Wii, Xbox 360, Game Boy, DS

Well since the Japanese data is all we have to go on, since the JRPG's available on the PS3 in the west were time-exclusives and the one exclusive JRPG PS3 has is an SJRPG the numbers from WKC in japan seem to indicate that among the HD consoles PS3 has the fanbase for JRPG's unlike the 360.

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

The Last Remnant... that's it....

Well we don't want TLR.....it had UE3 issues on 360 n PS3 works badly with UE3 anyway

if S-E has any decent games coming good....otherwise no thanks

FF13 will be fantastic though....I can feel it

they should finish it quickly
______

about SO4.....it will probably be a 50% decrease from SO3 in terms of sales....thats terrible for the franchise either way you look at it....you can't spin that

worst thing is its a fabulous game apparently!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Star Ocean 4 will be to the 360 what Valkyria Chronicles is to the PS3!- A great game that deserved more sales then it got!

Difference in titles- VC probably cost a Shit less to make then SO4 considering the genre and the development time

@shadowsoldier

but there's a HUGE difference

Valkyira chronicles for a SRPG has actually sold quite well WW

but star Ocean 4....for a SO game hasn't in japan....& it seems so in NA to ATM....UNLESS it has legs

To all PS3 owners not wanting to buy a 360: why do feel that you owe loyalty to Sony? It's a heartless corporation looking to control the multimedia market. They're not much different from Microsoft and both certainly don't deserve loyalty...
So, if you want to play Star Ocean that badly, buy a 360. It's the cheapest console on the market and doesn't break as it used to.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

@ OP - Agreed that SE will stop giving the 360 such support, likely they will put all their games on PSP, Wii and DS
