Forums - General - The Watchmen Movie is Terrible

I thought someone who read the comics would have loved this movie.

I'd recommend it to the fans of the comic, but to people who didn't read it, it's a entertaining action flick that is good to watch if nothing else is on.

Also, considering how powerful he was, Dr. Manhattan needed to materialise himself some pants.

All I could think about during that movie was "please, no more wang physics".

When you are as powerful as Dr. Manhattan, and you tend to think more and more humans are nothing but a bunch of ants, why would want to show modesty in front of them?  The whole being naked does show that he just doesn't care about what is about him.

And I bet he never read the novel. Right?

I thought the ultra violence and fight scenes sort of missed the point of the novel, which was more about implied violence and the fact that these are nominally normal people going around doing crazy things. Ozymandias should be the only uber bad-ass in the cast - but if your only experience is with the movie, then it looks like Rorschach could whip Batman's ass so hard that it'd make your head spin.

Well they did that for V for Vendetta a too... now everyone thinks V got superpowers from those expierments when in reality it just made him insane... or the only not insane person.  However you want to look at it.

In fairness to that movie, in the book V was so strong that he killed a man by jamming two of his fingers through the man's sternum.

ive not seen it yet, but im allways skeptical of any film that gets alot of hype on the internet, 300 was utter drivel imo, and the less said about snakes on a plane, the better, i thought the Spiderman films were awful, Batman films were ok, nowhere near as good as the hype made out though

I think Family Guy, like The Simpsons, was funny before and then it got meh. The Big Bang Theory and the IT crowd are hillarious.

Snakes on a Plane is not for everyone, I'll give you that. Sorry if I offended you or something.

lol, no, it takes much more than that to offend me, seriously years of being bullied at school has made me impervious to many insults.

Sorry to completely derail the thread, but is bullying really that much of a problem in the US, like everybody makes it to be? When Columbine happened I thought it was an isolated incident, but then a lot of documentaries and movies started coming out on the subject...

Here in my country, it's never been a problem. People make fun of each other and all, but usually if you don't mess with people, people tend to leave you alone.

Only 55 million for the weekend in NA?
I thought it would do at least 70.
word of mouth is poor! $150 million total? or will it break $200 million?

coolestguyever I'm going to guess you never read the source material, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. But if I'm right you might wanna read it: it's really, really good. Fans have been clamoring for an adaptation of it for years. This is not just trying to jump on the bandwagon of other superhero movies.

@scottie: I enjoyed 300 for what it was: mindless, gory, and with no higher pretensions than "FREEDOM! HELL YEAH!" to its name. It was brutal, stupid, and brutally stupid, but it was honest.

@Johann: I agree that it could not reasonably have been any better. My fiance disagrees on this point, but the point I hold to is that the narrative of Watchmen is so sprawling and paced so specifically for a gaphic novel that, when put to the screen, it become an indecipherable mess.

Even if the fans have wanted this for years, I would guess that the reason this was green lit now was so that it could jump on the superhero bandwagon.

As for 300, I thought it was a decent action flick, but I hated it for messing with historical events.  I'm not sure it was as shallow as you think it was, though.  My sociologist girlfriend actually saw a lot of parallels to the US political climate at the time (something about senate scenes in the movie and justification for Iraq war in real life).
