It's at 79 and will stay in 75-82 range. On par or better than all previous Star Ocean games.

79 after only 12 reviews after this is added in itll be at 77 bestcase scenerio and 76 worst. the others got 80s... it def isnt better like you paint it out to be

Try harder dude, I said it is going to be in 75-82 range and the only thing you proved with your post is that I am right.

It was actually a discussion about Star Ocean: The Last Hope and how 360 owners got screwed by Squeenix by getting a below average JRPG again.

But thankfully that's over now. Star Ocean 4 was the last big exclusive JRPG for the 360 which would decide whether or not it is worth to continue this strategy. It was The Last Hope and it failed.

Hmm, so the 360 manages to beat the Wii and the PS3 in Japan during the week when SO4 released and it failed? Oh dear.

meh, Review's for am RPG dont matter to me , i rather try the game myself, and i did and i liked it. the cliche voice acting is there but i find it amusing and funny rather than "Bad" its not something to take seriously

i'd still buy it , not first day tho .

Remember people, a 2.5 from RPG Gamer is more like 60-70%, not 50%.

Also, why is it so hard for people to actually source their reviews in the opening post?

That 5/10 is a terrible score and I believe SO4 must be a mediocre game in order to get those low scores of the game reviewer simply does not like JRPGs.

JRPGs just not my thing. Western reviewers have been hammering JRPGs lately. The highest rating JRPGs on X360 have not even broken the 80% average review on Metacritic .
I believe the PS3 has a few JRPGs that averaged 80% review scores and above.

Eternal Sonata is the only JRPG on the PS3 that meets that criteria at exactly 80%. Valkyria Chronicles is at 87% but it's JRPG status is questionable.

Do you care to enlighten me on this ?

Star Ocean has always been a series where the Battle System was first class, but the rest of the elements of the game lagged behind. However, the battle system was so good that it didn't really matter, although the stories are still pretty good.

SO:SS was one of the best RPG's on the PS1 and SO:TtEoT for PS2 was solid as well.

This game seems to be getting hammered in the reviews, I see its still has a decent meta score though. Gameplay praises are a good thing cause that helps, but the bad music and voice acting can ruin a story, which is essential to a RPG.

I finished the game and I didn't hear one bad music. I don't know what kind of music they like in their JRPGs, but this is the Star Ocean style, and if they don't like it, well screw them! o_O

Also, you get used to the voice acting. All JRPGs with voice acting are annoying anyways, unless they include japanese voices and subtitles. What's more annoying though are the mouths not matching, but that was expected. Remember when Square Enix said they wanted to release their games in Japan and the US approximately at the same time? Well, that's the result. It's still a very good one to be honest!

Also, you won't get lost in the story unless you know nothing about space, spaceships, warp speed, black holes (to some extent), the universe and other stuff like that.

Oh, and unnecessarily enormous areas is a Star Ocean staple, and it's quite a tri-Ace staple as well (see Infinite Undiscovery). Note that SO: The Last Hope is nothing like IU though!

One last thing, if they complain about long cutscenes... I wouldn't want them to play Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. I'm sure they would be crying! xD

FF XII begs to differ. Great dialogues, great acting. It can be done.

Edit: someone beat me to the same comment, sorry but I missed that thread page :)

Shall we call "Advance Wars" a JRPG too?
