Forums - Microsoft - How Microsoft defeated Sony.

Making their main goal the collapse of Sony and it's PS3 by any means necessary ! Even if it meant selling the console at a loss which is exactly what they did, knowing that they already shared most of their games with them they delivered a crushing blow that the PS3 will not recover from this generation .

Another intelligent  move they did was blocking off Sony's main bloodline , PlayStation's famous line of RPGs and JRPGs . Again it was a brilliant well thought out plan that was aiming right for the legs . If Microsoft could compete or at least slow down the huge momentum Sony was gaining , they could be able to turn the tides their way or neither way, so they bought temporary exclusivity from major RPG developers that have found success on former Sony platforms or new developers looking to succeed. Well needless to say Microsoft also did just that ! Deflecting PS3’s inevitable RPG fan base , either forcing them to buy Microsoft’s console  and its half assed J/RPGs or making them hate this generation to hell and cursing Sony for its lack of them, while Microsoft can claim to be home to the generations best RPG lineup .

I may have mention this before , but this had to be in its own category since it’s something  Sony has no answer  to .  Using their wallet to get  an advantage over Sony every single time ! whether  it being getting an early release (like RE5) or getting exclusive DLCs …..and the list can go on

Every Empire has to fall , Microsoft  just hurried the process . It’s not dirty its business .

1. Sony sold their console at an even bigger loss. Companies have been doing this with consoles for quite a while now.

2. If RPGs were so significant, wouldn't they be the highest selling genre this generation? Microsoft just wanted to gain a bigger fanbase in Japan, that's it. The main fanbase of the Playstation consoles is the casual fanbase, and Nintendo snagged them, not Microsoft.

3. Sony did this too with the Playstation, and they could have done it this generation if they wanted to. If Sony wanted to buy downloadable content for 50 million dollars, they could have. They're a global corporation. That's not even that much to them.

Okay.

So Resident Evil 5 didn't bomb so much after all, eh?

sony is not going to go out of business and they have alot of awesome games, and i think the main reason thet r not doing so well is because third parties found it to expensive to support it exclusively if they had gotten gta4 exclusively then we would be having a completely different conversation.and btw i am a xbox fanboy,(and competition is awesome is for business)

Excellent OP.

Microsoft Goal this gen = The Fall of Playstation.

Objective status: In process.

The years ahead of us will be VERY interesting!

I don't think MS defeated Sony...

WTF PS3 only is 2 years in EU and X360 4. Only 8 millions of difference...

X720 will be released sooner than PS4, for that reason MS is cutting price every day.

No way man, PS3 has Blu-Ray and Sony won't have to change his DVD for a better format, MS will have to do this.

You know, when this generation ends, then you could say "MS defeated Sony"

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

While I do agree that M$'s objective is to finish off Sony and Nintendo, that is also their objective for M$. It is part of being in business.

While M$ has done a lot of things right this Gen, its not the real reason for Sony's problems. Sony has self inflicted most of this mess upon themselves. You can only be arrogant and cocky so long until someone comes along and puts you in your place. Just like Nintendo has done this gen.

Sony isn't going anywhere, atleast for the rest of this gen. And they actually have a few things looking up for them. Enough of the gloom and doom threads.

M$ is defeating Sony, but it's not over yet...and M$ understands that and is increasing the pressure...2009 is starting to look somewhat like 2008, with Sony starting to show signs of life again...with all the buzz on it's exclusives, while M$ sits back and will be dropping serious bombs in the later parts of the year...already as it is, the most touted sony exclusive ofthe year hasn't delivered the transformation results spoken about before it's release...so 2009 might be the year the 360 locks in 2nd place for the generation.

FF13 exclusive in Japan > every JRPG for 360 in terms of sales. Sony is not defeated, they will sell more then the original Xbox this gen which got M$ second place last gen. They are also not severely behind a console that had a whole year to gain a lead.
