How can I forget Dark Gaia from Terranigma?

FF7\6, and not only because of the music.
For some reason I find that a lot of JRPGs final boss battles are just anticlimatic.
Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
What about Sephiroth (FF7) and its Supernova?
Kefka's final battle (FF6) is also one of the most epic I have seen.
Necrosaro (DQ4) and Final Fantasy Legend 2 (Saga2) are also excellent. Well there is too many choices...

Thats what i loved about FF9 cause that was so unexpected and like Square just gave more fun boss gameplay. I thought the boss before it (forgot that guy's name) was pretty easy so i wanted more and..surprise i got more lol. I love FF9 not cause im blind love for the series but because i really did enjoy the game. The story, the battle system, levelling up, the way you learn stuff, get summons etc. Very cool how Alexandria was your castle all along and beautiful with the angel wings. Best of all its fun playing with 2 players. Sure only one of you does the actual moving but you can choose which characters you want player 1 & 2 to control. My bro and i split the character control 50/50..sometimes we kill eachother for fun lol but how often can you share a turn-based RPG experience with someone? hardly any. |
Actually, I remember playing FF6 like that too, and that was very fun, didn't realize you could with FF9. I guess what I really meant to say was I enjoyed playing the game, but felt completely let-down by the ending. A boss that comes out of nowhere, with no explanation, and no real tie-in to the story beforehand (no foreshadowing/hinting that I've heard about/found myself) really irritated me. it doesn't qualify as a twist (a twist uses red herrings, ie. false foreshadowing) it was just felt misplaced.
I'd have prefered a more 'ultimate' form for Kuja, that would have made sense, still been bland like many of FF's final bosses, but would have made more sense. Don't get me wrong, I am a FF fan, just not blindly, the game still has to be good, and I don't think every FF has been good.

Kuja thats his name! XD ...well yea we all have our diff opinions to what we like in our FF games. But as long as you like some FF then its all good =)
Haha I'd draw some hate from die-hard FF fans though, I dislike some of the more popular ones. I like (in order) FF6,4,7,10,2,5/12. I only kind of liked 5 and 12, and mostly just for the battle/leveling systems. I don't count FF11 (which I think of as the worst P2P MMO i've encountered). FF1 is boring (I didn't play it back in the day, so I don't have that nostalgic feeling that everyone tells me about). FF3 I just never finished. And FF9 we already talked about.
Now FF8, haha, the draw system was alright at first, but quickly became tedious. The whole thing felt like a chore halfway through the game. But that's fine, I could do with that. I liked the summons, and even the story was alright, but the characters, dear lord. I've never played a game with more annoying characters. I can't even remember specifics anymore, but there wasn't a single playable character I liked. The whole thing was too 'angsty' for me, so I've never liked it.
And I really can't think of any epic last boss fights. While Kefka was cool, I don't remember anything epic about the fight, just me spamming ultima with my party until it was over. I think that's part of the problem with RPG last bosses, there's typically some formula you can follow, and the boss dies easily. I think that's why I prefer action RPGs this day, there's a little more emphasis on some kind of skill, and less on preparation (leveling).
