Forums - Microsoft - People are actually buying Halo Wars not knowing that it's a RTS

I bought FF7 thinking id get a tactical game. . . Boy was I wrong.

Yeah I figured this would happen. 14 year old avid halo3 fan sees a misleading halo wars TV ad and creams his jeans asking his mom for it. Mom gets it, he plays it and now hates halo.

soccer mom makes a lot of mistake buying gaming. It's not a rare case.

This is a shot in the dark, but I'm guessing the mother bought the game for the little shit kid because she knew he played a game called Halo, gave it to the little shit kid, little shit kid threw a tantrum because he knew it wasn't a shooter and didn't want the gift, and the mother was returning it because her kid was in fact a little shit.

Call me pessimistic but I'm guessing that's what happened.

Btw... thats what we were talking about in the Why this thread was locked thread :P .... just sayin >_>

yours was claiming false advertising when it clearly wasn't.

I've been hearing about this happening. Not surprising considering Halo's shooter heritage. The television ad I saw last night, that features no gameplay footage, and only CG, is not going to help matters.

Yup, Halo definately has a shooter heritage. But Mario had a Platformer Heritage for the longest time, and was able to move away from just being a platformer to being Mario: Everything. I have no doubt Microsoft has similar plans for Halo. Halo Wars is the first, it's going to be a transition for some people, but eventually we'll see the glorious golden game.

HALO KART.

I'd say that Nintendo does a much better at differientating their Mario games.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I expected this.

Actually i dissagreed w/ that part.... but i did say that it was not enuff information in the trailer

I bought a new copy of Enchanted Arms thinking that it would be a good game. Jokes on me! I traded that, Unlimited Saga, and Power Drome for like $9 during a special they were running. Worst 3 games I have ever purchased.

Couldnt these people just read the back of the box?

that is just too easy

(back of box for those interested)

This box art is very misleading.  Clearly those screenshots are from a first person perspective with Master Chief looking down from space, with a sniper rifle.

Haha. Brilliant post.

I assumed this would happen with Halo Wars. The Halo brand is very popular, so it's more than just a title for the 'hardcore', which means that people are going to buy this game thinking it's just your regular Halo game. But yes, just look at the back cover.

And in response to the OP's question, I dont think I've ever bough something just for brand name and been dissapointed.

Damn I was asleep and missed this whole thread xD

It's not microsofts fault it happens as they do clearly state what the game is about but the people are still getting confused. Clever branding I say.
