Forums - Microsoft - People are actually buying Halo Wars not knowing that it's a RTS

I reckon copies of Halo Wars will be in an abundance in second-hand baskets.

This...

I personally think Halo Wars will be the most returned game of 09. Some people at my local game shop have already returned the game, i saw at least 4 used copies on the shelf 2 days after release.

Well there's your problem! A Mother buying her Child a Teen Rated Game! A Bit off-topic yes, but yeah. Bugs me none-the-less.

As for buying Halo Wars thinking it's a first person shooter. It's really up for the consumer to know what product they are buying. Honestly, is it so hard to find out things? Last I checked, there was something called the "Eee-Ter-Net" or something like that which allows users to get a tonne of infomation. Heck, if they don't have a connection? Look up a flyer, Call your local Gamestore, Ask a friend, do some research!

It's not that hard, even by looking at ONE screenshot. One can conclude that Halo Wars it NOT a RTS. There is no excuse for being that lazy.

There's an even easier way to tell what it is if you somehow don't have access to the internet: THE BACK OF THE BOX! Regardless of what the cover looks like to draw you in, the back of the box usually provides SOME details and screenshots of what you should expect from the game.

Oh.... My... GOD!! It's almost as if the publisher and box-art artists want you to KNOW what kind of game you're buying. It's some kinda miracle of modern technology!

Although this example of a mother buying it for their child is a bit different, since the child obviously just said "Go buy me Halo Wars, I'm too young for T-Rated games and your a mother who doesn't care enough to research for 15 minutes about ESRB (I've given lectures about ESRB that's shorter than 15 minutes)." So the mother just went off and bought it.

So yeah.

ESRB is bullshit. Some of the ratings are totaly rediculus and can't be taken seriously (Witcher had to be censored for US release becouse few tits in game put it in danger of receiving AO category instead of M18+ :) )

And if Halo Wars is 15+ that's also quite funny.

I am sure this will be the most returned game in the history of all videogames! One anecdotal comment and the will of VGChartz deems it.

I mean, Halo "Wars" clearly sounds like an FPS to me and since MS was so deceptive in not typing "Real-Time Strategy" and "RTS" all over the front cover, even I was fooled into buying it. Since I have a 360 I'm too stupid to read, or have any idea what the back cover of a game might say.

People, please! No more low-grade sarcasm. It's killing me.

I bought burnout paradise thinking it was going to be a burnout game.

So, the real crux of the post as I understand it.

The OP witnesses a copy of a game being returned by a parent and we are now to believe that the only reason Halo Wars is making any sales is because everyone thinks the game is a Halo FPS.

It suppose the game has no chance of making a sale on its merit then. Next time I pop into town I will make sure I bring a ladder to get over the heaps of returned copies of Halo Wars that will be clogging the streets.
