Not a bad debut all things considered but still since development costs are probably 3x what RE4's were then making the same amount of sales isn't good either.

But this is a highly westernized version of RE so the real story will be in the west not Japan.

I wonder... maybe that RE announcement Capcom has for Wii will be a return to RE roots.  IE making a new RE game in the original design that sold millions in Japan.

Those are fantastic numbers. I was expecting much lower. Easy 1 million + for first week then(worldwide)

PS3 kills x360. now x360 have no future in Japan.

You really think the 360 is going to get a boost, let alone one that big? I hope so, finally hit a million in Japan, this is great news for HD gamers in general, more full on efforts from Japanese devs, we can start seeing all those crazy games like we did back on the PS2.

There was a very cheap Arcade bundle with Re5 in Japan. Best way for RE fans to jump in and play the game for pretty cheap.

The RE sales are much stronger than I expected... I can only guess all those PS3 owners have been waiting a LONG time for a new RE game on the PS3. And its a quality game.

So... is this the biggest selling "shooter" in Japan?

Not convinced by "50k" PS3 hardware though. Its not impossible, but I will be surprised if it hits this high.

Week#1 sales of RE5, put the title in the top#10 best selling PS3 games in Japan (since release). Maybe even in the top#5...

That game won't even hit until June.  The website confirmed it.
