Forums - Microsoft - Letting First Party Studios go...Is Microsoft Planning Something BIG?

Maybe their analyst foresee a bleak couple of years ahead due to the recession or a change in the way we use computers.

As MS themselves admitted the Windows OS won't last forever and powerful organisations are already positioning themselves to be the leaders of the emerging cloud computing era.

The causes of this "sell off" can be bigger than just gaming.

Ultimately we are all speculating and won't know for sure until they release a statement.

Yes, buy them before they fully absorb them into the the blob that is EA.

It happened to pandemic ,westwood, and so many others... Soon, bioware will start making cash-ins too.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

MS would rather "hire" a company to make a game for them then to buy the entire company.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

ROFL@ Microsoft being able to afford Take Two, UbiSoft or EA. Yes, they're rich. They also can't spend six billion dollars on buying a dying publisher. The stockholders would murder somebody.

All they're doing is reducing expenses. All companies are doing that.

Its called smart business. Cut costs before you start losing money. Maybe SONY should learn from MS

E3 is June 2-4, I think. And GDC is at the end of this month.

Not having owned first party studios gives them flexibility. If you own it and you are large like Microsoft is then you end up keeping a large amount of deadwood in the company as studio staff get more and more complacent over time.

By "outsourcing" first party games Microsoft is able to pick and choose the best ideas and companies to execute on their plans. IT may look more expensive and it does have some risk, but first and foremost it gives them extra flexibility to drop and add studios as they see fit.
