| RolStoppable said: Okay, I am in. Let's say Microsoft acquires Square-Enix. Does Microsoft win Japan due to S-E? No chance. Just look at the bottom of the japanese weekly software charts and read the publisher totals. Square-Enix has a big release once in a while, but most of their games don't have legs. RPGs are said to be a major selling point in Japan, which is partly true. But that's not nearly enough to win this market. A company needs all sorts of genres and some quirky titles as supplement in the games library of their console. RPGs are just a part of it. See how much Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata have helped the 360 so far, Lost Odyssey won't help much either. Thinking that a company can win Japan solely because it has a lot of well selling RPG franchises exclusive on their console is like thinking that a company can win America just because they have the most of well selling FPS games exclusive on their console. |
Your right Final fantasy doesnt matter. Not even kingdom hearts there all games with "no legs".

The best company to work with is Sony no doubt. Microsoft (from what I have heard) bosses them around and stuff like that. Nintendo only cares about Nintendo basically. You never see the Wii comercials advertising anything but Nintendo games (why not advertise Boogie?).
Sony on the otherhand wants to keep good relations with 3rd party developers. Look at Rockstar they had an exclusive agreement with Sony to keep the GTA franchise a timed exclusive but Sony let them make it a multi game in agreement that they would make one new exclusive franchise. At the moment there making 3.

http://vgchartz.com/japcomp.php?name1=Final+Fantasy+XII&name2=Kingdom+Hearts+II There you go. Big opening weeks, but both games didn't manage to stay above 10k units after 8 weeks in retail. The usual pattern for the majority of S-E games in Japan. For comparison, two games with legs: http://vgchartz.com/japcomp.php?name1=Animal+Crossing%3A+Wild+World&name2=Brain+Training |
You proved me wrong.. wow, japanese gamers suprise me.

We really need a rule that threads with misleading titles will be closed.
This thread's title should be a bannable offense it's so ****ing misleading.
I hope you're banned, but if not I'll just make sure never to open another thread created by you.
We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai
It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps
We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
I'm gonna lock this. In future, please be more careful with thread titles. This is pure flame bait in its current form (and IMO the topic itself has already been debated to death, and is sort of irrelevant. Why not start a "If Sony buys Nintendo..." thread...).
