mithos is the most kick ass villian, you people are insane and clearly haven't fought seifer from FFVIII he was a horrible excuse for a villian, easily defeatable and just lame overall

Seifer was a bit of a goober, but that.... that doesn't make Mithos a good villain.

mithos was amazing, eventhough he was an easy boss, he was clearly above the partys power(story wise) overpowering summons alone, spliting the two words together and being feared enough by kratos and yuan to the point they didn't confront him head on since they knew they would lose, his final dialogue is also really cool.

Look yes I egt that he was feared and whatnot, but he was also completely uncompelling and frankly not actually all that intimidating. I never sympathized with him, I was just annoyed by him, and as a villain I found that he tried my patience more than he tested my mettle.

I just couldn't take him seriously, especially with the way he was written.

he wasn't designed to be intimidating, but beautiful, as an angel is supposed to be. i also didn't like much of the writing concerning him, nor the final part where he goes all crazy and into negation.

Ultimecia from FF VIII
FF VIII had shitty villains. They switched on every disc, were never developed, never made sense, never had very clear motives....I remember nothing about her except her name, I don't even remember why she was evil or how she showed up in the story.

Such a forgettable Final Fantasy.

You obviously did not read when playing the game. She was the one controlling Edea in the first disc which you find out in the begining of disc 2.

Edea tells you her name (grats you got that part) and that she is a sorcerous from the future trying to compress time.

So in the begining of disc 2 you already know who the main villian will be and what her goal is, which happens in disc 4 if you got that far before posting your pathetic post.

you know she still sucks right, why does she wants to compress time? why does she hates seed? she has no motives at all, she is just there to have the main characters go on a adventure

The most pathetic one I've ever met was surely Dhoulmagus (DQ8), he has a lame excuse for a villain, you can't get more pathetic than that.
The second should be Kuja (FF9), another bad excuse for a villain, very plain and uninsteresting.

And, while she wasn't bad character-wise (nor good either, she was a bit forgettable), Ultimecia (FF8) surely looked a bit pathetic

I'm not going to defend Ultimecia overmuch, but she certainly had motives, notably in that SeeD was historically predestined to kill her, and she as a sorceress was subject to much cruelty from the people around her, as well as the idea that fighting against fate may have been futile.

One can argue she wasn't particularly compelling, but the woman had plenty of motives.

Not only what Emilie said, FusBus, but I remember all that NOW, now that you talk about it. The point being it was so forgettable that I don't remember any of that. Final Fantasy VIII was an overambitious, disorganized mess.

Back to Ultimecia. Ultimecia? Seriously? They just took the word Ultimate and made it sound vaguely imposing and feminine. What's next, a dark lord called Shadowy Badd? A villain named Ultramo?

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Disregarding retro-active cannon-books that says otherwise; I thought Ultimecia was one of the greatest villain of all time in JRPG base purely on an already rubbished fanboy theory that was  absolutely sensational for its time.

Rinoa is Ultimecia

The combination of stylistic similiarity between models, the many odd references (GF Griever anyone?) and the mystery that is Ultimecia's origin give rise to the speculation that she is actually Rinoa.

Not only was this mindblowing in JRPG terms but it makes scary sense and is a far better yarn than ANYTHNING square produced retroactively.

Its ironic tha the most awesome FF villain (Aside from Kefka) I've witness to date is only so awesome thanks to urban myth and fanboy speculation.
