Forums - Sales - What games could potentially threaten Wii Fit as Bestselling game 2009?

No game has even a chance to beat Wii Fit. FFXII won`t pass 6 million in its lifetime, GT won`t pass 10 million. Wii Fit will sell more than that during this year, and unless WSR gets Nintendos biggest marketing push and printing, no game will be able to pass it.

Pokemon Platinum (DS)
Starcraft (PC)
Sims 3 (PC)

So basically, the only serious contender being tracked by VGC Wii Fit has this year, as far as we can tell right now, is Wii Play and Wii Sports. There are no unbundled contenders.

Thanks for helping :)

Give it a generation, I'm sure we can come up with something that will sell better for longer.

I mean, it has to happen eventually.

GT5 outselling Wii Fit? Just for 09 or you mean total sales from launch? If the latter, there's no way.

Nothing, how about nothing?

Its got Wii and Fit in the title and thats pretty much all it needs to be evergreen for a very very long time.

People talk about casual, i think theres a new sub genre of gamer, the fit core or fit casual.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I don't think Wii Sports Resort will. I think if it was titled Wii Sports 2 it would do better. I bet the casual gamer will think its not a normal Wii Sports because of the Resort part.

You are seriously underestimating the casual gamers.

Wii Fit didn't have any brand recognition, to help its sales.

Even the Wii itself didn't have any brand recognition for the casuals. It is just "Wii", not even "Nintendo Wii"

If a product is able to catch their attention, and they like it, it will spread through word of mouth, quicker than anything else.

You mean besides the whole 'Wii-is-in-title" thing? If that isn't brand recognition, then I don't know what is.
