Forums - Gaming - Resident Evil 5: Street Date Broken (For 360 Only)... hmmm...

Can't see it affecting sales at all, it's the PS3 vs X360 in Japan....the X360 version will be outsold 3:1 or 2:1

Microsoft obviously paid Capcom for it.

There's supposed to be a huge uproar over it coming out one day early? How would this help out Microsoft to the point that they would somehow have organized this? As if anyone who had a PS3 only would turn around and buy an Xbox 360 so that they could get RE5 a day early.

Yep, it's as dumb as it sounds.

You do realize that people can own both consoles don't you? And you do realize that MS gets royalties from selling games? And you do realize that a lot of japanese gamers favor the PS3 and would most likely buy all multiplats on the PS3 if they had both? And you do realize there is an online co-op which means if a person picks up the 360 version early, later on it could factor into a friend getting the 360 version over a PS3 version? And you do realize the more someone plays a system and the more games they buy for a system the more they are going to like the system and support games on it that they otherwise may not have been interested in or even cared to check out? You do also realize that that link was from a japanese website advertising for free the XBOX 360 and the fact that a very popular game is on that console, helping to erase the notion that the 360 doesn't have many games for the japanese market?

Just because you can't figure out how it would help MS, doesn't mean that it wouldn't.

Honestly, how many times are you going to use the word "realize". The only thing I realized reading your post is that you have no idea what you're talking about. First off, there is probably a small percentage of Japanese who own both systems and of those, how many are going to buy RE5 at all. Of those who do, how many feel the need to get it at launch first day? It's probably a small number. No matter what, we'll see the numbers soon and I can gaurantee you that in Japan as we just saw with SF4, the PS3 version will sell a lot more due to the larger userbase there.

In the end, one day will make almost no difference. What I posted was common sense. If I want nonsense, I'll just reread your post, I guess.

You don't check the sales charts do you? For most games about 50-60% of it's sales in Japan come first week. And you can bet about 20% of total sales comes in the first day. And it's impossible to know who owns both but it is pretty conceivable to believe that a japanese gamer would buy a PS3 as his/her main console but then purchase a 360 because of the few exclusives that it has such as star ocean. As for how many people are going to buy RE5... 240,000 bought RE4 first week on the PS2, 142,000 bought it first day on the GC, Resident Evil 3 did 1.1 million first week on the PS, Resident Evil 2 did 1.3 million first week in japan, and the original Resident Evil did 137,000. Though I'm sure it wont reach RE3 or RE2 levels first week it is pretty safe to say that the game will sell more than the original RE did first week as well as more than Devil May Cry 4 which sold a combined 250,000 first week.

And I agree with you that the PS3 version will sell more than the 360 version. But you said you fail to see how this would benefit MS not how will this make the 360 version sell more than the PS3 version. So i told you how it would benefit MS. Even if it only persuades 1,000 people to buy the game on the 360 instead of the PS3, that wont be much of a different in the sales figures but that's still thousands of dollars in royalties that MS gets as well as potential future sales. If you still fail to see how it would benefit MS then maybe you should just stick to your common sense. But know that just because a sense is common doesn't mean it's intelligent.

First off, I choose my words carefully, so please don't try to tell me what I said.

In your post, you wrote "But you said you fail to see how this would benefit MS not how will this make the 360 version sell more than the PS3 version."

Where did I say that?

Go ahead, look....

That's right, nowhere did I say that.

Now here is what I did in fact say in my original post-

"How would this help out Microsoft to the point that they would somehow have organized this?"

It's not exactly the same thing, is it? In fact it's far different. I questioned how this would help Microsoft enough for them to have possibly organized this somehow. My point is how silly the conspiracy theory is, not that it wouldn't help Microsoft at all. Clearly, any advance sale of the game before the PS3 counterpart helps Microsoft. I'm just disputing the amount of help.

And you can give me all the numbers you want and imply I don't pay attention to the charts if it makes you feel better but I'll even use some of your numbers from your post. Even if this does help Microsoft to the effect of thousands, hell make it hundreds of thousands of dollars, that's spare change. We're talking about a billion dollar industry, two companies that are worth billions of dollars. Do you really think they would bother with a plan like this? It would the same as one of working a few hours in order to make an extra nickel.

There I feel so much better now.

My mistake. I thought you meant this wouldn't help microsoft(at all) because it wouldn't get people to switch from the PS3 to the 360. I was just pointing out the benefits that it would give MS. It doesn't make sense why the 360 would go early and not the PS3. I'm sure we both can agree that the head of the video game division at MS wasn't having meetings over this as a strategy or anything, their picture is obviously much to big to look at for this. But it could have been a local or regional sales manager or someone that thought it would help out the 360 numbers in his region. And a thousand extra sales from his perspective is a big deal. Or it could just as likely be a mistake by the retailer or even a fake article. I don't know and I don't really care.

As for the part you quoted me I was refering to where you said that you'll wait for the numbers to come out and that the PS3 version will outsell the 360 version as if you thought I was infering that this could make the 360 version outsell the PS3 version. Maybe that's not what you meant, but then I have no idea why you brought htat up then.

The point I was making in regards to the PS3 version selling a lot more is just to point out that it wouldn't make a huge difference in the end and that it was very unlikely Microsoft had anything to do with this.

I'll come up with something better eventually...
