Forums - Gaming - Goldeneye/Perfect Dark is STILL the best FPS ever!

Goldeneye had a better single player campaign. Perfect Dark had the better multiplayer

I don't think any game will ever beat Perfect Dark in my book....if PD had online play it would be amazing

I started making videos for youtube; check them out.

although i dont agree with everything u said i do feel they are the best fps ever... as a matter of fact i believe they are the best 2 GAMES ever.

My FPS experience is very limited but it was Goldeneye that made it my favorite genre. I also spent a lot of time playing Perfect Dark. They are definitely two great games.

And you`re only speaking from a technical point of view. You`re out. Next please.

No, I am not. Technical obsolescence was only part of my argument. Golden Eye does not control well. It's gameplay is relatively simplistic compared to more sophisticated FPS's such as Bioshock and Halflife 2. There is nothing that distinguishes it from a flock of similar games besides its legacy and nostalgia. It and PD are still very good games, they are simply not the best.

Also, though you may not want to admit it, technical advances can impact how good a game can be, particularly First Person Shooters. Would something like the gravity gun have been possible on the N 64's hardware? Perhaps in a lesser sense. Stronger hardware allows for increased capacity for innovation, at least when we're talking about today's hardware vs. the N 64's.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

@blaydcor

Don't forget about the short campaigns and lousy boss fights.

Simplistic gameplay doesn`t mean bad gameplay.

Who the needs a gravity gun to have fun? Bad games? If someone out there are missing a gravity gun in

Goldeneye or Perfect Dark, please let me know.

Interesting you should mention boss fights. I don`t think the games need boss fights. I`ve never even thought about it. Last boss in Perfet Dark was unneccesary.

Microsoft needs to put Perfect Dark on XBLA w/ Xbox LIVE 16 player gameplay, and make a Perfect Dark 2 that kicks ass and has a major budget behind it to make Perfect Dark a killer AAA FPS again.

I have to dissapoint you, but rare will never be capable to make another AAA title. Never ever. The insanly good game producers at rare don`t work there anymore. They left when microsoft bought the game company. Look what they did to perfect dark zero. I`m ashamed they used the name just to sell more copies. The game was horrible compared to Perfect Dark for N64 of course.

I think im making this point for the first time on these forums, so please bear with me.
The reason why Goldeneye has a very high aggregate score in sites like Meta or Grankings is the same reason why parents act ecstatic when their child takes its first step, but dont make a fuss when they see it running when its 5 years old. A great FPS on a console was a big deal back then, on the PC, the FPSes had to live up to higher standards.
And no, i didnt find Half Life to be too boring. In fact it stays one of the best games ive ever played. Wish i could say the same about Goldeneye or Perfect Dark.
