no body would notice you weren't drinking.

but you might also not be the guy who gets out there and make any friends either that way. People go to parties and drink because it lowers their inhibitions making them more... social. Takes away that anxiety of being around a bunch of people you don't know.

Thats basically using alchol as a crutch for social anxiety though. My mom is more social and friendly then virtually anyone when drunk. So is my granmpa... on my dad's side. I'm sure that genetically I have the ability to deveop fantastic social skills, I just have to keep working on it. And I'm getting better, so I'm not too worried about not being able to talk. I'm concerned that people won't want to talk to me becuase I'm not drinking.

that shouldnt be a problem for you, some people will be drinking cause they dont have your confidence, so they more likely to be impresed that someone can talk to people that dont know easily, so you should be fine,  i doubt anyone would not talk to you because you dont drink

I go to one of the nicer colleges in Australia (imo the nicest, but I haven't seen all I suppose) and whilst there is certainly a small amount of pressure to drink, no-one is going to ostracise you for not drinking.

I advise that at parties you have a drink of soft drink or juice in your hand at all times. If you do not, many drunk people will either say "where's your drink" or simply assume you're too lazy to go get one and buy you a drink"

As for Frats, I live in Australia where they don't exist

If the fraternity you're planning to join includes hazing you can bet there will be alcohol involved but other than in those occasions, I don't think anybody will force you to drink or shun you because of that.

No. So you might as well start up now.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.
 — Pat Buchanan – A Republic, Not an Empire

Of what I know you are not legally allowed to drink in the USA unless you are 21 years of age.
