Forums - Microsoft - What microsoft need to do to conquer Europe and Japan?

to win in japan they need to be japanese and be a handheld.

Most specifically, they need to be japanese to be won over by the Japanese. The Xbox and the Xbox360 were and are not seen as consoles that the majority of japanese gamers would consider buying cause everything that the xbox offers seems too western. Considering what is on top(wii, its debatable) and in second(PS3) in japan and which two companies have dominated the handheld and console market for years microsoft cant dominate in japan. Look at the services of  Nintendo and Sony, its free. Japanese have to play to get on "Xbox Live". The games on the PS3 are better then the games on the 360. Hell, even when the game is double dip(devil may cry)  the game performs better on the PS3. The only time when an Xbox title out sells a PS3 or wii release is when its made by a japanese developer and is exclusive for the 360 in japan.

About Europe, does microsoft even promote the 360 in football or rugby matches? Do they even do crazy marketing like Sony does for the Playstation in Europe?

Maybe they shouldn't have called it xbox in Japan.

MS is doing pretty well in Europe so what's the fuss about?

Launch the xbox 720 out the gate with a low price tag, and keep the great new launch titles at 50-60$ while making controllers and etc cheaper than it's competition. Saving money will be essential. Make it mass market out the gate, like the wii. And so it won't be the GC, just make sure the console appeals to gamers AND their families with some other features. (but that's just one thing about it)
Graphically, the xbox 720 should be like a high-end PC 1-2 years from now. Not like the ps4, which will bankrupt sony with it's "4D" and controllers that are body suits. It should make M$ money even if the console only sells 35 million. I think that will be their buisness model.

Oh, and no RRoD.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

I hope that is a mistake and you mean Euro. Devs would make huge losses at a price point of $50 (39€) per game copy in Europe.

Didn't the 360 have like a 1 million console lead over the PS3 in Europe? What is this about "conquer Europe"? Both the PS3 and 360 are trailing the Wii in Europe, along with everwhere else, so not sure what "conquer" means here.

For EU keep releasing great games and keep the price much lower than the PS3, KZ2 pushed hardware sales above 360 which shows that once a £100 price cut comes PS3 will start selling close to and likely more than 360.

Japan keep releasing JRPG and other games which appeal to gamers over there, MS also need to find a way to have SE release FFXIII on 360 day and date with the PS3 version in Japan. Reason for this is simply that the launch week for FFXIII will do the numbers all the numbers combined of 360 JRPG in Japan. That would have wasted all that time MS spent getting the JRPG on the console to have the hardware sales wiped off in a week. I am going to be honest and say I see no hope for 360 in Japan, matter of fact I feel the same way about PS3.

M$ is already doing well in europe. As for Japan, I think if all JRPGs became exclusive to 360, it still won't perform well because no console performs well over there nowadays.

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

America instantly accepted Xbox, Europe somewhat, and Japan just a bit. With Nintendo being around 15 yrs & Sony being around 6 yrs console wise when the Xbox came out, people were already comfortable and were skeptical with the Xbox, although Halo was Xbox exclusive, and that game alone saved Microsoft's ass from a huge failure and 5-10 Billion dollar investment loss!

PREDICTIONS:
(Predicted on 5/31/11) END of 2011 Sales - Xbox 360 = 62M;  PS3 = 59M;  Wii = 97M

Europe is all about established brands. Xbox/MS is not as established in the console-business as Playstation or Nintendo. But they are making a good move. UK accepted the Xbox360. They actually chosed it over the PS3. The latest "need for speed" is a pretty shitty game, but it is established and people keep buying it. It is up to you to decide if you want to call this loyal or "unread".

With games like Fable2 and Forza3, you will make Europeans happy. The exclusive Splinter Cell could do a great job as well. This is a very popular franchise in Europe.

And of course Europeans are into soccer and racing. Besides that casual stuff is doing great here. So especially Lips was an important game.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
