Anyone know if there is a planned sequal to Super Mario Galaxy on the WII platform?

So believe what you want. Both views have been confirmed by the man himself.

Those are not rumors about an upcoming game. Those are obvious statements that eventually there will be sequels to games that have had sequels since the dawn on Nintendo.

A rumor would be that someone who knows some dude that cleans the bathrooms at the facility that has been hired to provide paper to Nintendo said they saw SMG2 running somewhere.

There are not enough dogs in that anecdote.

I didn't say they were rumours.

I agree an announcement about a possible new Mario game is trivial as there will always be one, but the question is whether that sequel will follow on directly from SMG with the same controls, gameplay and situation.

The distinction between my quotes were that I believe in the first one a direct sequel was implied, and in the second it was ruled out. I'm not saying one is more likely than the other, I'm saying that that is all the relevant official material on the subject. Feel free to stare at every line and come to your own conclusion about the precise meaning.

I hope so. Waiting 5-6 years for each main Mario game sucks.
