Why do I care so much about looking at whether a game fails or succeeds in the marketplace?

I feel like I have some addiction to gaming news. What is the reason for this?

I hate most games because they feel like a task, but I like reading about them.

every industry is fascinating, hell every look closely at the toothpaste business? (Im not joking btw) its just that gaming is alot more controversial and contreversy sells. (what with internet wide fanboy wars and the like), which garners more interest.
