Forums - Sales - Blu-Ray Adoption Stumbles As DVDs and Downloads Grow

Do you hate Playstation or are you totally in love with microsoft since all yer posts is negativ stuff for Playstation users. Or maybe both?
Just wonder. I`m not mad. Just curious.

Actually, he trolls most anything remotely anti-PS3.  While the article was one analysist, he purposely left out the site's comment to make things look worst than they really are...

"Blu-Ray will not die tomorrow although Sony has already said that Blu-Ray will start to fade by 2013. Much of it is going to depend on how the Internet Service Providers are going to react to the exponential growth of bandwidth needed to feed the millions of computers and networked devices which will be downloading HD content."

The fact of the matter is that whether or not Blu-ray becomes mainstream, it's the only viable option to give consumers BOTH full HD audio AND HD video.  And Blu-ray might never become mainstream.  And at the very least, HD enthusiists (both audio and video) are not mainstream to begin with.  Hardware and content providers are behind Blu-ray more than ever.  Just check out www.Blu-ray.com, and in the news section you'll find this it be very true.

New day, another article posted by gebx regarding some sort of failure of Sony and Sony products...

/sigh

What can you do?

Sony has a lot of failure these days.

Just check their balance sheet.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

This isn't so, I was at Best Buy just last Thursday both Best Buy's near me were packed. And the aisle that was the busiest, surprisingly was the Blu-ray aisle.

These sites that come up with DVD and Digital Downloads is killing Blu-ray are just a bunch of bull. Actual figures and word by month show that Blu-ray is and has been taking off pretty good.

Digital distribution is the future but wont become standard until broadband penetration and speeds in crease drastically. But way to go DVD!! I really dont like blu-ray because i cant justify paying $40 for a movie that would cost me $20 to buy in DVD. Plus BR killed HD-DVD and for that i can never forgive it :( that is until the movies become cheaper :)

I bought the 2 disc Hulk Blu-ray set for $24 on Amazon.  Typical to point out Blu-ray worst case scenario to paint a false picture.  Besides, Blu-ray didn't kill HD-DVD.  Toshiba, the consumers, and Warner brothers did that.  Toshiba was selling their players so low that it was hardly worth anyone else to invest in the player technology.  Consumers were holding off on buying movies on optical fomat because they were seeing where the format war was heading.  Because of that WB saw a 5% decrease in DVD sales in Christmas of 06.  So they decided to help end the format war by supporting Blu-ray exclusivesly.  These are the facts.  Besides, what if Blu-ray did single handedly destroy HD-DVD (which it didn't)?  Someone had to come out on top...

In a sense, you and the OP are correct in which both are anedotal evidence in particular regions/locatons. But as I stated earlier, Blu-ray support is in demand because it offers viable media cannot.

Uh, Blu-Ray adoption appears to be on the rise, from all the data posted here on VGC. Some UK site posts it "has some data showing DVD players outsell BD players in some time period by some margin", and all the other collected data is suddenly invalidated, and Blu-Ray is doomed?

im not seeing a decline...

edit:

I do want to point out some facts since this article somewhat brought them up.

1. Digital Distribution of games is expected to increase up to 200% in the next two years.

2. While this is a major increase digital adoption is still something to be considered as slow, especially in the United Stated, due politicians constantly ignoring the idea of Universal Broadband which would take the 200% and easly double it within the next two years if the US gov would actually front the cost to create the infrastructure needed.

This is about slowing growth, not decline.
