Killzone 2:Guerrilla Games Overcame the Odds

Killzone 2 is finally here, Sony's Behemoth exclusive First Person Shooter has been released and is reported to be selling out everywhere, it is easily the best PS3 FPS, and in my opinion the best FPS released since Half Life 2. But the story wasn't always this happy...

Killzone 1, released for the PS2, was a shadow of it's potential, and the scores and ratings showed that clearly, who would have taught that the sequel to what most would consider a mediocre title would excel to such heights as Killzone 2 has.

In fact prior to KZ2's release, there was still doubt in the mind of most, will Killzone 2 be the FPS Sony want it to be? will it really deserve all this praise and expectation? and the answer to all those questions are finally out. Guerrilla Games have proved themselves as one of Sony's most important 1st party developers.

How many developers do you know have accomplished what Guerrilla Games have? no, this is a serious question, how many developers have come back from a relatively poor first outing to create an outstanding game in every sense of the word, A game with so much expectation and promise? Guerrilla Games is that developer, they have overcome the odds staked against them and created a game that lives up to it's hype.

Killzone 2 is easily the best First Person  shooter on console to date, it is selling radically, and the online servers are filling up...it couldn't be

All I am left to say is a great big "Thank You" to both parties.

i think killzone 2 could be realy awesome but not as good as halo 3 oh yeah killzone 1 really wasnt that great

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!

bet with *no one yet* that the combined first week of Monster Hunter 3 in america and europe will be 600k or more! winner changes looser sig and avatar for two months!

Well they released 2 games at roughly the same time, Shellshock and KZ, both of which were met with average reviews, then they released Liberation, which I thought was a fantastic game

well I agree with it...we moslty see mediocre sequels for mediocre games
but killzone is a different story
and it shows the real potencial of guerilla games :)

@munkeh111

Guerilla trusted themselves.
In 2005,when we saw KZ2 epic trailer, which was fake, it only brough laugh at them.
While everyone was laughing at them, and while Sony invested games like Resistance 2 which was over hyped, and then failed, Guerilla just did what they can.Made impossible possible.
Indeed I don't know any other company that have done this.
Or one.
SquareSoft.

Take my love, take my land..

I cant say that I know of any company that has made that much progress from their first game to second but have to say It was a smart move for Sony not to sell Guerilla Games after their first game.

I think this is more of a case not many studios getting a second chance after making a "poor" first game.

Capcom had done it with the Street Fighter series, if i remember correctly

"The accumulated filth of all their sex and murders will foam up about their waist and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"...

....and I'll look down and whisper  "no."
