Forums - Microsoft - BIG Rumor: Rare Whipping Up Two AAA Games This Year! (360 owners REJOICE)!!

Darth, here's the thing of it...Rare NEEDS a HUGE hit this generation, and to be honest with you, doing a Killer Instinct 3 is kinda taking the easy way out…the game would have an almost immediate amount of hype and buzz to it, and it’s a fighting game…so it’s a easy sell. They have to ensure they don’t screw up the control system, and probably try to add more story to the plot…but I’m SOO hoping to play Chief Thunder!!!
Actually, I’m righ now hoping M$ can get the original KI or KI2 put on arcade to get how palettes wet!

If Rare made a true, brilliant, high-budget Perfect Dark 2, it would EASILY surpass Halo 3, Gears 2 and Killzone 2 as the greatest shooter of this generation.

I'm about 61 jiggies into Banjo Nuts and Bolts and I feel it's awfully close to AAA. The way it has eased me into vehicle creation (something I wasn't looking forward to) by putting challenges before me that require some puzzling creative approaches has proven to be far more intuitive than I was led to believe from the vocal critics. I still have quite a ways to go (haven't even made it to Terrarium of Terror at all yet after over 20 hours), but I'd be pretty surprised if it all fell apart now.

That being said, I truly HOPE that Rare goes with original IP's this time. There seems to be too much nostalgia coming from gamers concerning old Rare IP's. Killer Instinct is being mentioned too many times here and I know that many will be disappointed no matter WHAT they do with it.

Killer Instinct was the only one of the two Rare titles leaked to EGM dude. It's supposed to be a huge secret.

C'mon...sorry, but sales is one of the most important factors in "greatest" and Halo has pretty much locked that now...based on the initial results we are seeing this week...I didn't buy Perfect Zero, but I played it a little, and maybe it could be great...but to topple Halo...hmmm....

Did you play Perfect Dark?  The N64 original?  It's probably quite comfortably the best pre-halo shooter ever to appear on a console.

As someone said earlier in this thread, Rare don't seem to have been given one high-budget opportunity this generation.  Despite this, their average game quality is still just as high as it was during the N64 period.

If they were given a high-budget and had been developing for a long time (perhaps a year or so after PDZ came out), Perfect Dark 2 could own every console shooter released this year.

It's obvious that all good game designers left rare years ago. There are no one left for aaa games.

lol "bigger than Halo",

starcraft is starting the hype for Perfect Dark 2 already. ^^

Haha.  Obviously not from a sales perspective.

But come on.  Anyone that played the original Perfect Dark knows what that game is.

And what a genuine sequel could be.

I'd love to see a Killer Instinct sequel if it was a great fighting game. I liked that it used controls similar to Street Fighter and the graphics style and music was great too. I should find my KI CD somewhere.

I'll come up with something better eventually...
