Forums - Gaming - Future: Nintendo could be only video game seller and have monopoly

i'll probably quit gaming if it happened

Around the Network

i'd just go back to pc gaming...

i would probably become a PC gamer. I like gorgeous visuals and regular controls both of which Nintendo does not focus on. So i for one wouldnt like ths unprobable scenario. But to each his own if you like nintendo then this probably looks like heaven

Long Live SHIO!

no...retarded topic..and nintendo wii is garbage. i wouldn't care if nintendo went 3rd party like sega.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

Wow I sure as hell that doesn't happen. I'd have to stop being a gamer lol.

I'm not sure I understand this mentality.

I think I could live with the awful graphics, but if being a gamer meant having to use motion controls... ugh, can't say that would be of interest at all.  Now if Nintendo went back in time and went with a conventional controller, than I might reconsider.

You've never really played very many Wii games, have you.

Honestly, not too many.  Mario Kart, MP3, Brawl, SMG, and obviously Wii Sports (which, admittedly, was pretty fun for the first hour).  Mario Kart and Brawl were bearable though because after chucking the wiimote I became pretty solid with the GC controller.

It's all about the game.

That's kind of my new point, then - of the games you mentioned, none of them forced motion controls on you in a contrived way.

Nintendo wasn't the only console available in the 1980's but they might has well have been. Sega Master System & the Atari 7800 did basically nothing to stop Nintendo's onslaught back then (even though Sega had a good look in Europe & Latin America).

What could happen now may very well lead to a true monopoly of the videogame business should Microsoft & Sony give up on this circuit and no other competitor have the drive to enter the field. But where there's money to be made there will always be speculators. Somebody will challenge Nintendo and keep them honest.

But I have always said that Nintendo IS the business and in the end it will always come back to them. They are the very reason why the console even exists today. It really shouldn't exist and computers could have become THE game platform in the mid 1980s. The NES changed all of that & each Nintendo system after that along with Nintendo's competitors keep the home videogame console alive as a concept.

Super Paper Mario, Fire Emblem, Wario Land: Shake it and a host of other games (like WiiWare games) have you playing games by turning the controller on its size and using it like a classic NES controller.  It works well, as the motion properties can be utilized, but it can also be used as a standard controller.

Nintendo does not have "games for everyone".  Lack of mature titles or not, 480p (or less!) is simply unacceptable for those of us playing on 50" monitors.  I'm part of "everyone" and they have zero games for me.

Are you saying that you can't play games with bad graphics? For shame. Missing out on a lot of fun.

It has to do with low res 3D games being headache inducing when you play on a large monitor.  I'm not generally prone to motion sickness, but standard definition gets blurry when it's blown up and once the camera starts swinging around...

I should say that 480p (and even some 480i) really isn't that bad as I can still play PS2 games and 2D PS1 games (and even 3D is bearable in short sessions as long as texture maps aren't use) but I'm beyond the point where I'm willing to pay for it.
