Forums - Nintendo - If you have PLAYED Halo 1/2 AND PLAYED MP3, need your thoughts on 2 things

it sounds like you like simply linear stories--nothing wrong with that--you would proably be better suited to wait for H3 because Mp3 does have alot of the "zelda" elements of back tracking and exploration

The beginning of the game is very linear, but opens up soon after.

From your perspective, it doesn't sound like you're kind of game, but I still think it's worth a $5 rental to check out because of how good the game is (controls/gameplay). ^_^

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

I just played it for about 20 minutes. They had a copy running at my local gamestop. I got irritated right out of the gate so I'll be renting to see if it grows on me. For instance, I'm trying to get to the damn bridge. No obvious way to get there at first -- finally realized to shoot the two red arrows. Got the ramp to drop. OK, figured I'm good to go... Nope! Now you have a computer with a security code you need. Ok, hunt (albeit short) and find the code. Ah, I have it. Open the door. I'm on the bridge! Nope, not yet. Scan, interact and turn the handle to open the chamber. Walk in. FINALLY! Nope! Get scanned.... Waiting... What now... Crap, had to get back to work.

/RANT If they knew I was coming (and they did!), why did I have to go through all that crap to get to the bridge? Why not just let me go there speak to the man in charge and get the damn mission going? Also, the engineer tells me the "walkway" isn't working -- something is jamming the gears. He then just stands there. I hesitate to use the word stupid, but he's the damn engineer and he can't figure it out? And the "solution" is to blast a pair of rotating arrows above his head? At first I wandered around trying to find "gears" to see what was jamming them. I finally gave up, went back to the room and noticed the "auto-target" gray looking thingies and realized the game was telling me to blast them... Honestly, this is what makes a 15-20 hour game a 50-100 hour game because of the multitude of small, tedious tasks that are required. I will admit that a couple of the "tasks" I encountered in the game were kind of cool in terms of Wiimote interaction but over time those types of things coming at me constantly drive me nuts. I guess I DO like more linear games... /rant

The animations were very smooth though they had it on a Samsung LCD and I don't like the looks of the Wii on an HD TV via component cable. It sharpens the jaggies too much. I prefer the "softer" look of component feed via SD. Since I didn't make it very far (obviuosly) I can't truly vouch for the graphics other than to say, at the moment, they are rather Halo 2 ish quality wise. I read somewhere that after you get off the station and get going that the graphics really start to shine.

In closing (I bet you thought it would never come, lol) I'll still give it a chance. As long as the "tasks" are no more than what they are now -- i.e. more or less simple ones -- I'll be fine with it and might even enjoy it... I'll report back when I've had a chance (as if anyone was actually waiting on my opinion).

^^^ well KN, the whole point of the very beginning of the game IS to teach you the controls and basic gameplay mechanics.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Uhm... it´s the beginning isn´t it. It is supposed to tell you how everything works, it´s the same in every 3D Metroid. But that will change after the first 60 minutes.

Edit: Damn, Stof you are as fast as a weasel

Playing metroid in a gamestop is not exactly ideal in my opinion as it spoils one of the major factors of the game...it's atmosphere... on a different note if you got frustrated at the first bit of thinking you had to do then this game is not for you..it has puzzels, it has backtracking ,it challenges you into thinking, even the bosses themselves.. scanning is the solution..you have to do lots of it..for me personally it's a god send as i love to dig deep into this world but you might find it tedious..however on the visual side of things you'll be hard pressed to find a better looking game in terms of art and design..it's simply beautiful...that alone could drive you into enduring it just to c the next fantastic world..

rent ;)

what i dont get is the whole "Haloish" thing--why because you are on a space ship? this ships dosent look anything like the halo ship/station--so i am lost on that one--and besides there were space ships in games long before halo

There were spaceships in Metroid long before Halo as well.  Same with space Marines.  Truthfully, most of Halo's setting was ripped of previous games.  Most notably Starcraft, which Bungie even admitted in an interview had a heavy influence on their design choices.

Hey guys, thanks for all the input. I'm truly not trying to dis the game and it does look beautiful and epic and all... Just appears to not be my cup of tea. Let's leave it at that and let the thread die. Again, I appreciate the comments from those in the know and for keeping this from becoming a flame-a-thon.

Thats was seperates Stof from animals... exept the weasels :)

@kn: thats very civil of you, respect, and you´re right it takes all sorts, I´m not always in the mood for these type of games eather, just like with movies, I can´t only watch comedys or action movies or art flics, and it would be stupid to say one kind is better than the other :)
