Forums - Nintendo - If you have PLAYED Halo 1/2 AND PLAYED MP3, need your thoughts on 2 things

This is definitely one of the best games of the year...definitely worth a purchase, in my opinion.

If you didn't like the adventuring in the last two games, kn, at least it'll be more clear and exciting in this game. I'd definitely pick it up if I were you.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I'm about 3 hours in also and I agree with everything Naznatips has said. I've played Halo, Halo 2, Prime, and Prime 2 so I should be qualified to agree.

The best thing about the adventure/exploration part is they improved the scanning system.  I think one of the biggest drags while exploring in Prime 1 & 2 was having to stop to slowly aim you scanner with the joystick everytime you needed or wanted to scan something, which was a lot of course.  Now you scan by pointing and you can do it while running.  It works much much faster.

Well, let me give you an idea of the types of things that annoy the daylights out of me in Twilight Princess.

The boomerang. It's a neat gimmick and a cool tool. Use of it became tedious very quickly, though. In the couple of places where I had to use it to open a door, move a ramp, or something similar, I had to do so repeatedly. There is no reason to make me do it more than once to open a door, gate, etc.

Collecting Gems. I am sick -- really sick -- of smashing pottery and grass to get gems. Couldn't they come up with something new since this is, what, like the 37th game in the series to use that formula?

The dungeons. Why must you wander all over the damn thing to find a key to another door far away? It's tedious. Furthermore many areas of the game require all sorts of jumps from platform to platform and a fall means you have to start all over again. Some of these sequences are LONG and TEDIOUS and a mistake where I fall and have to start over makes me want to gouge out my eyes with a garden spade.

Many of the sub-tasks are just downright annoying. Hey, I've got a great idea for a game! Let's play "chase the bandwagon and try to keep if from being burned". We'll go round and round in circles for days on end till the user figures it out! Hey, it'll be fun!

I was ready to quit TP after the whole "hawk/monkey/baby basket fiasco in the beginning. Ugh.

Climbing long vines. Damn, link moves slow. Here, hold this little analog stick "up" for me and call me when he reaches the top. I'm going to take a nap...

And an even bigger annoyance. Re-spawning enemies. I step out of the door. Oops, I forgot something -- let me go back. Damn, now I have to go pick up that stupid bomb spider and throw it in the mouth and.... Hey, let's do it over and over again -- what fun!

That's just Twilight Princess. Don't get me started on Wind Waker. UGH!

If there is any sort of this formula in MP3, I'll hate it.

In all seriousness, I'm not hating on Nintendo or the Wii. I like several of the games I've played so far. I don't like the twilight princess style of adventure, though and that's unfortunate because there are some games (OoT anyone) in the series that are stellar.  As I have come to despise the format and series, I'm only helping my daughter when she gets stuck.  Outside of that I don't watch it any more.  Thankfully she's near the end and it will get traded in for something else.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict you will not like Metroid Prime 3.

Graphics in prime 3 >>>> Halo 1/2

Better frame rate, more detailed environments, better animations..everything.

I see nothing wrong in backtracking. It gives a game a little more depth in that way. I realy don't like linear structures of playing where you go level to level as seen in things like Halo ect.

try renting it first

I forgot about the frame rate.  Yeah the frame rate is 60 FPS as opposed to the 30 FPS of Halo 2, and it makes a huge difference in how great the game looks in motion.

even if it is the wii i would hope they make it look at least equal to halo 2 if not better, its been what 4 years since halo 2?

BTW you cannot compare the games and say one is better, but i def know which one is more popular...

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

I have only played HALO and MP, but I think you should avoid all MPs. It just does not sound like your kind of game. Comparing the two games is like comparing Megaman and Metroid. It may look alike when watching, but The gameplay is totally different. It is not impossible to love both games, but that does not mean that if you like one you will enjoy the other.
If you hate Zelda TP for puzzles, exploration and fighting just forget about Metroid. The gameplay is different but both games share a lot of concepts.
