As much as I agree with Words of Wisdom, I'm half hoping for an ironic outcome of him being banned for this thread.

Banning is a power kick. Fanboy mods love to ban people who don't share their own opinion. Sounds awful, but its true.  At the same time, moderation is not a rewarding job -- people don't really like to sink the time into fairly judging every action on the boards... its not worth their time.

I can't count the number of threads I've read here where a poster gets (rightfully) banned for saying something pretty awful... yet the person he/she was speaking to was just as disrespectful as in previous posts, and they don't get banned -- either because the mods are too lazy, in some cases, to read the whole thread when a post is reported, or they allow their opinions to influence their moderation.

Its a little overboard on this forum, but... I doubt these guys are getting paid much, if at all. You can't blame them for being a little overzealous here and there.

1. They get a single warning for each seperate offense, not three, though some offenses are taken more seriously and sometimes some posts are serious enough for a ban but at least deserve a warning.
   
2. I like the marking a post as warned, that way when we warn people we don't get reports about it for five days because people don't know they've already been warned.

He also had several previous moderations for being anti-American. I don't care if he was quoting freakin' "Yankee Doodle," we're not having that crap on the forums.

Users get one warning, and then if they should commit another offense, they get banned. The ban length increases depending on the number of times said user has been banned. We have been racking up an impressive ban total and I'm proud of that. I'm excited for when we reach a total of 1,000 banned users.

To be honest, most of the users on this forum are complete idiots. It's normal for any forum, and it's sadly true here as well. If you see so many people banned it should not surprise you.

 I think WoW has a good idea.  I would like to see the warnings flagged on posts.  I like the fact that mods flag the posts in the user profiles when they ban someone.  I always read them.
