Some of the puzzles are relevant to the story, but alot of them are like outlawauron said, just relevant to the situation (i.e If a women says she's missing a cat, no doubt you'll run into a cat later in the game that mysteriously has a puzzle underneath it).

I think this game is awesome, the twist was decent, but the puzzles are really what this game is about.

Some puzzles once solved extend the story line, but others are just for those who want the 100% completion. The story with its cut scenes are sweet so Id recommend finishing it so you know what's up when they release 2 and 3.
