Forums - Microsoft Discussion - need SF4 challenge help

I feel so stupid.  The challenge with Ken is to do a heavy kick and then do a fireball.  I'm all over it.  Easy, right?  I realized its timed and you need to do it quick but no matter how fast I do it... nothing.  It's getting very frustrating.

I'm using an aracade stick so I don't have to deal with d-pad stress but even if I get the fireball the instant ken's foot hits the ground from the kick it still won't give it to me.  I figured maybe you need to do the fireball immediately after the kick starts but it won't even let you until he's finished with the kick.

Please help.

From what I've found the timing on these combo's is ridiculous. In-game they are quite easy to pull off but what they want in the challenge I have no clue. There are quite a few of these with various characters and I've had a time trying to get them down. If you think those are bad wait until you hit the 4th-5th tier challenges. TBH they are nearly impossible except for the pure experts.

I'm not the SF4 expert by any means but I've done a few of them by sheer luck. I've found not watching the screen and trying them that way actually helps me. I don't know how good of advice that is though. Somebody with more experience/skill than I should probably chime in.

Yeah, the timing for the challenges is a little hard to figure out. Sometimes I can nail it, sometimes I can't.

Hmm, wish I had SF4 so we could duke it out together JPL =) Anywho you are buffering your fireball right? I'm guessing if so than your timings just off, try throwing it faster or slower, I've found with complex moves that require buffering eventuall you find rhythmical pattern to the string.

Yeah Graham, if you don't get it we could still spar in HD remix. I tried doing the fireball at all speeds no luck.

Jason, from your achievements you beat the game on hard and also beat it without continuing. That's pretty good skills IMO.

badgenome, I want to add you to my friends list, we could play sometime.

Okay everyone, I kind of figured it it. You have to cancel the high kick animation by doing a focus attack dash cancel. You do the high kick, focus attack, dash quickly to cancel the focus attack and then do the fireball.

I still can't get it though, but I know the FADC is the way to go because it worked on a similar challenge with Chun Li.

It's just funny to me they consider this "normal" challenge but I doubt 5 percent of players would do it easily. Plus NO WHERE does it tell you any of this, you are just expected to know it. I couldn't find it on the book. I finally found it on a post online. I think I'll give up on those types of challenges though they are too frustrating, there's too much fun to still be had to bellyache over that crap.

Well I missed it when I looked. There's a lot to take in this time around.

edit: anyway it's inconsistant at best. One challenge says "high kick then fireball" but in reality it's high kick focus dash attack cancel plus fireball. Another one on Ryu actually tells you focus attack cancel in the description. Yet both require it and only one says it. I'm assuming as I do more of them I would see this kind of thing more.

I managed to beat the first cancel challenge with Chun Li and the second one was crouching punch, focus dash cancel and then spinning bird kick. Problem is you have to CHARGE spinning bird kick and the computer doesn't want to give it to you unless you could somehow magically do a SBK instantly without charging.

It should be cut and dried. If it requries a focus attack dash cancel it should SAY that. It's hard enough to do this crap even if you know exactly what to do. The internet is full of people complaining about this same thing and they can't figure it out. The people who know are not really sharing that information with the exception of one post I found. If you know how to do it or tips to do it better why not share it with us instead of guarding it like a secret.

I've played capcom side scrolling fighters since Street Fighter 1 and nearly mastered games like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and hands down these challenges are the stupidest cheesiest things I've ever seen. My hand is still soar from trying to do them last night... I couldn't keep this up or I won't be able to play at all through all the pain. At the same time if you don't, more or less, master everything in the game you aren't going to get half the achievements. I could probably name about 5 achievements all tied to finishing challenge mode completely. I'm not complaining about time trials or survival mode, that's cut and dried so no complaints.

There's actually a gimmick to getting those achievements. I'm not as good as the achievements say ;0)

Zangief's cyclone spin will get you those achievements pretty easy. If you're having problems look on X360a.org. There is a youtube video posting how to do it but it's pretty easy to figure out.

And here I was giving you all that credit! Thanks, this is interesting but hopefully I could get them regularly with more practice. I think I could beat it on hard but the tough one is not continue on medium or hard... then again if Seth hadn't killed me once last night I could have had it. I'll probably check it out anyway.

On medium it actually isn't too bad other than Seth. I've been working on beating all the characters on medium. That and unlocking the characters will probably be my next achievements.

Actually as Ken the first time I played Seth I mopped the floor with him, he barely even touched me. At that point I was thinking easiest boss ever. But for some reason I think I pissed him off and now he is much harder.

Jason, let's brawl sometime!!
