Forums - Sony - The Evolution Of God Of War !

God of War is a series close to many of our hearts. Spawned from the mind of the criminally talented David Jaffe, the original God of War introduced us to Kratos, the brutal ex-Spartan soldier that vowed to kill Ares, the Olympian god of war. God of War exuded quality; the plot twisted and turned before culminating with a gratifying finale, the gameplay was unbelievably fluid and satisfying, and the visuals were the finest to grace the PlayStation 2. It was a masterpiece.

When we discovered that Jaffe wasn't directing God of War II, we were devastated. What would become of our beloved Kratos? As it turned out, God of War lead animator Cory Barlog was a more than suitable successor. The brilliant God of War II was the PS2's swan song. The story continued to entrance us, the gameplay was refined, and the game engine pushed every last polygon and rendered every advanced effect the console could handle. It, too, was a masterpiece.

In a surprising turn of events, Barlog -- like Jaffe -- also left Sony, consequently just as God of War III was revealed. Since then, over a year has passed, and the God of War III media onslaught has begun. As the first God of War game for the PlayStation 3 and (allegedly) the final installment in the series, the game faces incredibly high expectations, and Sony Santa Monica seems prepared to confront that challenge.

We thought that as production on God of War III goes forward, it would be helpful to look back at the older games to see how the series has changed over the years. Behold, the evolution of God of War.

Yeah, same can be said for example about GeoW serie(Linear hide&seek shooting.) too, but anyway as long as mainstream crowd is full of graphic whores this will continue. /me shakes his head

SLAP !

No. The games are epic experiences that need to be played to be understood.

Unlike some games AKA a lot of "none graphic heavy games" these games actually has a story and a sense of scale and gives you the will to accomplish them. If you can't understand awesome then live in disbelief. There is a reason why the games are hyped, and with God of War, it has little to do with the purty graphics. (though they certainly are amazing)

I see truth hurts... and a lot. Anyway kantor seem to be expert about this game too. Mind to tell me what kind of innovations these games have in game mechanics? (Hint: If something is perfected, its not a innovation. Also theres no such a thing as perfected.)

When I want story, I go and see a movie. When I want to play a game, I just don't want it to be something simple button smashing. (And hey thats what I think. Of course you are entitled to have own opinion, which I guess I am not, but anyway. :) )

I hate to say it, but I agree, good games (played GOW I, GOW II, Chains of Olympus multiple times so dont accuse me of not haing played them) when you play them through to begin with, theres enough polish to ensure that on these games. After  you've played them through 3 times or so its boring as hell (very much like Devil May Cry in that sense). I havent played GeoW, but started a co-op campaign on GeoW II with my brother, and although it is quite fun I have to admit I can already see after playing about 4 hours into it, its going to turn out to be horribly repetitive. So people slamming Deneidez just for having his own opinion need to calm down, because this is just what it is an opinion.

Why settle for either when you can have both. God of War games have both great gameplay and a great story. If you only like games without story, well that's your call, but theres no reason for you to come in here and troll :\

oh and God of War did innovate btw. God of War invented QTE's. Atleast to my knowledge.
