Sony: Record Growth and Momentum for Playstation in 09

Sony Computer Entertainment remains confident in their approach and strategy for "another record year of growth and momentum" for the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3, SCEA CEO and president Jack Tretton said.

Talking to a gathering of retailers and developers at the annual Destination PlayStation event, Tretton called 2009's line up of games for both platforms unprecedented.

"With a year of record sales ushering us into the new year, we continue to raise the bar on providing consumers the deepest and broadest entertainment content for every member of the family to enjoy," said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. "With new content being added every day to the PlayStation Network combined with an unmatched line up of exclusive titles on PSP, and the roll out of truly groundbreaking games such as Killzone 2 for PS3, we remain confident in our approach and strategy for another record year of growth and momentum."

SCEA previewed an impressive line-up of PlayStation 3 games for attendees including Killzone 2, inFamous, MLB '09: The Show, MAG, UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves and God of War III. All of which are set to hit this fiscal year. That's fiscal, as in not calendar.

They also unveiled an impressive line up of new PSP titles including portable versions of LittleBigPlanet, Assassin's Creed, MotorStorm and Rock Band.

And they announced two new PSP packs, including one featuring a lilac PSP, coming out later this year.

So what do you think? Year of the PlayStation?

Don´t know if this is the "year of the PS3", that´s subjective...the system that provides me the greatest fun this year will claim that title.

All I care about is the systems I own (PS3 and Wii) look like they´ll have very strong libraries that I´ll enjoy.

Killzone 2
Resident Evil 5
MadWorld
Infamous
Uncharted 2
Dante´s Inferno
Bayonetta
WiiSports Resort
S&P 2
etc..

already look very promising as far as I´m concerned.

Last year Playstation 3 had the year Games-wise...
This year looks to be turning out exactly the same for PS3 games, but i cant see the console going anywhere atm without the pricecut.
As for the PSP it looks like new life being breathed into it, LBP should be quite big for PSP with the popularity it has atm on PS3, i expect a LOT of advertising this time around. And the Lilac + Hannah Montana could do miracle works. Alls looking good for these so called "Dying" machines

Sales-wise,no.

Games-wise,yes.

I felt sony had better games last year than any other company.

And the same for this year as well.

I think its kind of funny actually, since the article has nothing to do with a"year of the Playstation".
All Jack Tretton said was the PSP and PS3 has a great lineup.Thats basically it.

PSP will definitely rise. PS3, doesn't look too good, but if it get's a price cut then it is guaranteed.

im really not sure if these PSP games will sell. in the west they will mostly be pirated

Popular franchises will sell regardless. Not PS3 levels, but respectable enough.
