How far are you into the game? Depending on your answer it'll answer some questions I have from your post :P

BEAT System

Battle Exalted Action Type (BEAT) System (or Battle Enhancement Attribute Type in English version) allows the player to choose Edge's and active team members' preferred fighting styles, such as offense, defense, sneak attacks, etc. As combat experience increases, the team can achieve higher combat rank statuses, which unlock advanced styles, known as Action Upgrades. BEAT.S (Strike) is a type of offense fighting style, which is actually a special Blindside technique. In effect, the team member forgoes defense and initiates multiple Blindsides to confuse the enemy, then unleashes a flurry of highly damaging attacks. BEAT.B (Burst) is a type of defense fighting style, a special Rush mode power play style. The team member fights the enemy directly in front with special attacks. During this time, the member is almost invulnerable to enemy attacks. Lastly, BEAT.N (Neutral) is a balanced type of fighting style combining offense and defense, and increases both S and B ranks equally, though it gains no special skills unlike BEAT.B or BEAT.S.

Also try talking to the black guy on in the base at Aeos, he can explain to you how it works. Pretty much, BEAT.S is straight forward attack style perks and raises those stats as you increase rank on the BEAT. BEAT.B is specialized on long range attacks and raises your stats accordingly for long range fighting. Each one of those BEATs has special perks that are activated during Rush mode. BEAT.N lets you combine the stats of both BEAT.S and BEAT.B but you lose all the perks that each one would give you individually.

The bonus board is awesome and makes you want to engage enemies more often rather then run by 'em. It also prevents unnecessary grinding. I like a lot of exp blocks (Edge with maxed out Critical hits does the trick), with a few HP/MP blocks (just spam Edge's stampede) thrown in. I went through all of the Purgatorium with 10 exp blocks. Double exp FTW! Helped me level up real fast, until I had my board broken in the boss battle. Also if you don't want to spend much time filling out your bonus board, just go back to Aeos or Lemuris (Van Elm Region) and fight weak enemies. You'll build it back to how you want it in 10 minutes. Run around, draw multiple enemies for ambushes and wipe them out for your SP blocks. Although I really don't need individual SP, I just use team SP to max out skills. If you're opening chests and doing quests/orders, you'll have more than enough team SP to max out.

I thought that SP blocks add to team SP. Leveling gives you individual SP.

So basicly its to tweak stats? Okay got'cha.

But what BEAT would be best for a full blown offence style?

And how do i level up my beats? i've only ever seen my characters level up and thats all... maybe i missed it or something i dunno.

Thanks for the heads up pb. :D

And @Shadow, im only at the part were i first meet the little brat thing who loves the word "Kay", so i can only assume im not to far in, atleast i hope im not cause so for meh....

And as for the Hints..... LULZ CROWE!!!!! XD

Btw.... Does anyone know if Aumat or whatever his name is STAYS with you the entire game or is he the Albel Nox of TLH?

Because i only see 8 slots for a party with 10 possible playable characters...

currently renting star ocean 4 and 22 hours in. its an alright game. the voice acting is bad, and is it just me or do the better the graphics are the stupider the talking and movies look. their movements look aqward so many times.

otherwise combat is enjoyable enough, not as fun as tales games combat. Not much of a big story going on yet. Really just a new story on each planet it seems. Haven't gotten the taste of the true villian or outcome yet. But been decent enough to keep me playing.

Boss fights are fun, but they go into rush mode too damn quick pisses me off. I have to return the game by midnight on friday and currently at POSSIBLE SPOILER (i am trying to save sarah (girl with wings) from that ritual) END SPOILER

anyone know how much left. It is disc 2. I have found in past multiple disc games that usually the 3rd disc seems to be super short, like last dungeon and boss only. and some optional bigbaddass bosses.

@Seraphic_Sixaxis

I'de stick with each characters default BEAT if you want them to excel at their type. BEATs gain exp per battle. As long as your using an S or B type. You can view the BEAT levels under Characters/BEAT and change the BEAT type.

About Lymle, you'll have a kick later on when you talk to Welch after you finish what you need to do on Limuris. Welch is funny.

If we tell you the answer to that last part, it'd spoil a lot of the story. I'll just say that you've actually still got a little while to go till the game picks up, but once it does it picks up fast.

If you wish..yes. But for my part after i got Meracle, after training her up to par with the rest of the group shes all I ever used for battling, so despite Arumat's awesomeness and kickass space-lightsaber-death scythe, he never got much use from me :P
