Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony ships a million PS3 per month on increasing supply of pick-up heads, says paper

There will be no price drop until atleast fall. All i see on threads like this is people clutching at straws hoping the ps3 will do badly. Considering zero of there big games have come out ps3 sales are brilliant. And from March for the first time there'l be a steady stream of games. And the times getting closer when the numerous big hitters start to arrive.

Even after the Christmas rush it M$ announced that they had shipped 10.4 million, but actual NPD data and all other available sales data AFTER christmas reflected somewhere from as low as 8 million to as high as 9 million. As I said, every supplier does this. Sony is guilty of the exact thing with the PSP. I'm sure the Wii will have over supply as well before long. It's simply an inflation tactic used by the manufacturers to artificially pump up numbers. 4-6 million, is that why 360 sold only around 2 million thru q4? They didn't need to build up that many extra systems to withstand any kind of rush.
Microsoft sold (roughly) 2.15 Million consoles in North America in Q4 and probably got near to 4 Million systems sold worldwide ... My point was (if you didn't get it) that in a 3 month timeframe (October 1st to December 31st) a company can sell an amazing quantity of consoles; in order to actually meet demand for your system you have to start building the extra systems (really) early. Consider that if Sony began building 250,000 extra units per month as of febuary 1st it would be October 1st when they would have a 2 Million unit built up stock (assuming that they had no previous stock) ... This would be the minimum extra stock you would want if you didn't want to have serious supply problems ... Now, companies have (previously) just increased production 2 or 3 months before the holiday rush but this tends to produce lower quality product and is more expensive ...

Why would you up producing on a slow selling product, I know then need to get units to Europe and everywhere else but increasing it by that much well, you going to leave alot of systems sitting in the stores.

That's my point exactly. I don't understand they point of not holding off over-producing an unnecessary product until they can lower their production costs. It just doesn't make sense.

LOL pay for workers, payed for factories payed for material/components. All that will now will come to a stop, just brilliant. NA does what around 300k a month... Japan... 60/80 Eu will do similar to NA. So a good +700k PS3s sold a month out of a million, leaving 3 million in stock for Xmas07. Sony know wtf they are doing.

They don't need to increase supply to keep paying their factory workers. Did you even read the thread title, much less the thread itself? We're talking about them increasing production. Therefore my post was referring to not understanding them increasing production, not that I think they should stop production. Reading comprehension FTW! And "Sony know wtf they are doing?" Are you serious? Have you not been paying attention at all for the past oh, year and a half?

you think they would over produce if they could not sell it ? LOL So they should make exact number they sell, smart so if demand rises they cant meet it. Or when they switch over to new tech and production stops for a bit they wont have a good supply already produced. it funny as hell that nerds online think they know better then Sony.

Do you have some sort of expertise in running a corporation that we're not aware of? If not then you can kindly shut the hell up with your condescending attitude.

Yes, bow down to Sony, they are perfect, never make mistakes, and of course God forbid anyone should ever criticize them. Of course they know exactly how many they will sell and thus are producing accordingly...I mean, businesses never make mistakes, right? That's why they all succeed at everything they do, especially Sony. I mean, after I write this I am going to go watch a Betamax tape while listening to music on my MiniDisc and then maybe watch a movie on UMD while listening to ATRAC-formatted music.
