Forums - Nintendo - Dewy's Adventure

I'm really sad and perplexed that this title bombed completely in Japan. It seems to be innovative, interesting and a lot of fun, and as a result it's precisely the type of game that I bought a wii for. But compared to it's stylistic predecessor (Elebits - which was innovative, but not interesting or fun), it's sold 1/20th as much thusfar, and is probably not going to sell more than 10k in Japan in it's lifetime. It both makes me worry about the Japanese market, and wonder whether Konami just failed to market it correctly. I hope it sells a bit better in the states, but I feel like it will slip under the radar with so many big-name first party games coming out this fall. Which would be sad, because what with this and elebits mediocre world-wide sales, the team behind the game might get the chance to make anymore games...

It slipped under the radar on day 1. It was released next to 20 other games on the same day. It was a New IP and, from what I have heard, it lacked advertising. Its fate was sealed.

However, it has been selling at a steady rate of 4k(not impressive, but not out of the radar) each week, so there is some hope that sales could remain this way(by word of mouth) for quite a while.

I hope they advertise it well, or at all, in NA. I am really looking forward to the game. I just fear it is too CUTE to sell over here.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but checked last week's chart and it's sold a total of 4.5k at about 1k/week, which is really weak.

re: Cuteness/America
That's exactly what I fear too.

It's sad that this game won't do as well as it should but at least I'm happy in the fact that I'm going to get it. This game actually rose above SSBB on my want list which I think is impressive enough.

What I bet will happen with this game is that it will turn into an Okami or Psychonaughts type game.

Hm... I wonder... I remember seeing 4k for the week, with a higher total. Maybe I confused it with another title...

@twestern,

I was going to say that. I think that Zack & Wiki may go that way as well, though with much better sales.

I agree with DonWii, although I thought it was at about 2k per week in its last two weeks?  Can't remember exactly.  It is not selling well, but its not like it sold 2k the first week and dissappeared into oblivion.  People buy games that they play at their friends house, and say, "I'm getting that game."  Hopefully word will spread in Japan that they sould buy Dewy.

 This team from Konami is putting out some extremely creative ideas, and I'd like to see them continue to do so.

Anyone know when Dewy is being released in America? Hopefully it won't be overshadowed here.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Next week... September 4th

I think it will do better in the states. It definitely will get some love from the Elebits crowd. The main deciding factor will be reviews, though. Anything under an 8 will kill this game.
