Forums - Gaming - Has Final Fantasy XIII turned to be too "dark" and futuristic ?

Remember when Jprg:s were about adventure with swords and shields?

Now everyone is shooting with machine guns and bazookas.

I don't like it.

While Final Fantasy X was somewhat futuristic, It wasn't dark,it was happy adventure with blitzballs and swords..

This looks too dark for me.

+ our hero is some kind of demonic female Dante with machine guns.

Still nothing can stop me from getting it..

Its fine how it is.
If I wanted to play medieval games I would rather play elder scrolls. Or perhaps FFIV on the DS.

I like it that way. I've got enough boring medieval settings recently.

FF8 had guns and it was amazing..

just because you've seen guns doesn't mean that's all you'll see

Predictions.

1. Wii will never reach 50% market share.

2. Kz2 will sell 1.3 first week 3.5 LT.
Sales predictions for 09.

Wii - 69 - 72
PS3 - 32 - 34
X360 - 39 - 41

So what is it now? 3-4 characters who use firearms? A few gunned characters doesn't bother me, but now with me seeeing 4 characters already with firearms I wonder how many more we will have.

Last I checked I wasn't reading up on Wild Arms. -.-

Such a divide now with what Final fantasy fans want. I personally am with the OP here. I miss the days of Swords, Shields and Magic. While X was fun, the last Final Fantasy that I thoroughly enjoyed more than one playthrough in was FFIX.

Of course I will still pick it up and hopefully enjoy the hell out of it, but I can't help but be upset about the direction this series has been going since XI.

Well from what I know we have been shown Lightning, Snow, Sazh, and those 3 from last week. 4 out of 6 used firearms. I am not even sure we even know what the other 2 use yet, for all we know they could be using guns as well.

A little bit offtopic, but: That marks the 5th time I've seen "I dont like how it looks at all but I'll still pick it up!!" comment on FFXIII.

What's wrong with you people? You dont like it but you'll still buy it? I am sorry but that's just stupid. If I dont like a game I just skip on it and so should you. FFXIII is not a game for everyone, if you dont like something about it then just dont buy it, otherwise you are just setting yourself for a dissapointment.

The new three characters probably aren't part of the main party though. They'll be secondary characters, most likely, that you only have control of once in the game.

So far we have:

Lightning - Sword/gun combination
Snow - Unarmed
Vanille - Unknown
Sazh - Pistols

Honestly, this doesn't look all that much more futuristic than FFVII. The lack of character diversity does seem problematic, though; if no one uses anything but ZOMGFIREARMS then it doesn't bode well for distinctiveness between them.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Vanille uses bow as far as I know. And 3 "new" characters are something like Fujin and Rajin from FFVIII.
