Forums - Gaming - Reviewers on Wii graphics

So we've recently had a thread "SMG can proudly stand next to the best-looking X360 and PS3 games -- IGN", and we've also recently had threads on Metroid Prime 3 reviews. The review from Gametrailers said much the same thing: "Easily the most visually impressive Wii game, it can hold its own against any title on any other platform." So what's the deal? Two major gaming review sites saying that the top tier Wii games can visually compete with anything on the 360 or PS3? I want to get real perspectives from people on this, not flames, so please take a breath before you start typing. :)

ummm. That's because both those games have some of the best art direction in gaming. Okami on the PS2 can stand next to most games on the 360 and PS3 for that reason. However, with the same level of art direction, a PS3 or 360 game could blow past anything on the Wii.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Stof pretty much said it all. Its sort of like WoW versus EQ2. EQ2 pushes more polygons than WoW and has better texture quality than WoW, but WoW is considered by most to have better art direction and is deemed the better looking game visually because of it.

I watched the gametrailers thing, and I can say with utmost confidence that they were talking about the artistic graphics (or style, rather) .. so pretty much what stof said

I presume, as stof already mentioned, that 'art style' was the angle they were coming from when they made a statement like that.

I read that as an overall impression given the medium.  Just as  PS2 game is reviewed knowing the capability of the hardware, they would review Wii games in the same manner.  That would mean art direction, overall style, presentation, and graphical quality given the capability of the hardware.

As far as I'm concerned, that's great.  We know the Wii can turn out at least original Xbox graphics and as long as the titles show that level or better, I'm good with that as long as the gameplay is stellar.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

"Amazing as it is to say about a Wii game, Corruption contains some of the best visuals in gaming, period." 1Up.

According to Matt Casamasina(?), Retro ranks among the three best artistic developers in the industry(I assume one of the other 2 is Team ICO).

IGN clears it up:

"What Retro has done with Nintendo's underpowered console is nothing short of amazing, of course, but if you dare to compare Prime 3's visuals to games beyond Wii, you'll notice a chasm in technology. The artistry? We'd pit it against anything on the high-definition-ready consoles with confidence. "

well said don wii

As Gotchaye X said in a post on "Metroid Prime 3 Reviews" IGN took a half point off for graphics for no reason, after raging on about how great the game looked. Now Don Wii says that IGN says if you compare the graphics to those of the 360 or Ps3 you will notice the gaps in technology... SO!

I don't think the Wii should be compared to the 360 or PS3 when it comes to graphics. The best looking Wii game... that takes the Wii (graphically) were they didn't think it could go, should get a 10. If the art direction is on par with the big systems what is the problem?

What do you guys think?
