  • FFVII -- it's not as great as everyone says it is.  The story was bland and the characters weren't good yet somehow Cloud became the model for every future hero of the series.
  • FFVIII - Hey guys, I have a good idea, lets make an even quieter Cloud that's also kind of a dick!
  • FFX - Well we made a Cloud that's kind of a dick so now lets make a Cloud that's kind of whiny
  • FFXII - Well, I think we struck GOLD with making the last Cloud whiny, so lets multiply the whiny factor 10 fold this time, completely get rid of the quiet, in fact, he should never shut his fucking mouth, make him almost a woman, and make him dumb as a brick.
  • FFXIII - Well the last Cloud worked for us, what can we do this time?  I know!  Make him actually a woman this time.

Are those actually what you think or is this as close as you can reasonably come to trolling without actually doing it? My God, man, no part of that is reasonable and I have trouble believing that you're actually typing it.

Cloud, Squall, Tidus, and Vaan are fundamentally different. I won't speak as to Lightning since I haven't seen her in-game yet, but if she's meant to appeal in the same way as Cloud in terms of marketing then that still means jack squat in terms of how she will actually be characterized.

I mean, how can you compare Cloud and Squall for more than the first ten minutes that you see each of them? Vaan and Tidus is even worse.

Unfortunately, my FF experience started on ps1.

If you like medi-evil/japanese styles, you'd like the FF's you missed.  Don't ignore them just because you didn't like FFIX

Saying something is bad and good is opinion. If I look at the FF series, I will say that FF2 for the NES was actually bad. I like FF VII, but not as much as some of the others (IV, VI, and IX). But, I don't think it's bad even if it is "cool" to not like it.

Everyone has their different opinions on FF. Tons of people hate FF IX, which I really thought it was the best of the series.

That's a shame. If you ever get a DS, consider picking up the FFIV remake. It's exquisite.

Just like people can assume it will be a good game, I can assume it will be a bad game until proven otherwise.

Yeah when FFIX didn't sell where they wanted it to they jumped back to, lets make everything like FFVII, sure I thought FFVII was a good game, but then every FF after that tried to achive the same thing FFVII did, which was make huge bank for Square. Personally I bought my PS2 for FFX, my feelings went from *excitement* *opens my new PS2 and pops in FFX* *see the opening* *looking good* *get this awkward story about Tidus being an emo kid with dad issues* *gets a little puzzled* *notices how terrible the voice actors are* *gets more worried* and then by the time I was teamed up with Rikku I was bored, pissed, and was hoping something good would happen soon, then Auron comes along, is badass, but then the rest of the game is a let down, and I find out Auron is actually dead, at that moment I wanted to break my disc...

Wait, how do FFXII and FFVIII connect? One is a spinoff of the other?

I just like good games. And I wish square enix the best, since I know they're people that put their lives into making games (on the developer level, anyway) despite the fact I haven't been crazy about all their recent updates to the FF series.


How many series in any medium have gone on as long as the FF series? It's kind of an interesting experiment to see how many fans they alienate and attract as time goes on.








*edit* just read all the posts...  must have had that reply window open way too long.  That'll teach me to go to the bathroom.

        I really don't think Vaan and Tidus should be compared too closely, since if Vaan is a version of Tidus, he's a version that's become benign and vestigial -- he doesn't take too much of the spotlight from the other characters (making it more like FFVI,) and he really isn't that annoying... his voice actor is how many times better than Tidus'? 

       He's also not a clone -- personally it disturbed me more to see the FF7-like turn that FF9 took in the end, when it was going so well before that!  (9 is still a great FF though, and one of the only ones to let you still fight with 4 or more characters at once , and to be multiplayer!  Man, they need to try that again!)

Meh, as I said, that whole piece spawned of me being sarcastic and joking.  They started with the same basic Cloud character look/design and that's what matter since they're all made of carboard anyways. 

Keanu Reeves has more character than all of those characters combined (and not joking there )

And also, Vaan isn't necessarily the main character. Every character outside of Penelo has a decent argument as to they be the central character of FF12.
