It could happen and I would love to be wrong about FFXIII but we have a much better chance of seeing a good 3D HD Sonic game before that.  Sure, we'll have people ranting and raving about how FFXIII is a masterpiece the same way people rant and rave about FFXII but it still doesn't change the fact it's a bad game.

It's no secret that I'm not excited about FFXIII and I already think it's going to be nothing specia but that isn't what this mini rant is about.  I'm sick of SE and people thinking they can only crap gold.  I say only crap gold because that's what SE seems to like to release these days and people eat. it. up.

Why?

I saw a thread on the front page asking if Final Fantasy XIII could be the last AAA RPG on consoles if it bombs and that just enrages.  People just assume the game is good because it's an RPG and ignore other great games because they aren't Final Fantasy yet the Final Fantasy franchise has ranged from miserably mediocre to utter shit for more than 10 years.

I hope FFXIII bombs hard so SE is forced to make good Final Fantasy games.  I want them to stop relying on cut scenes to mask the shitty story and characters.  I don't want another Cloud throne, boring predictable copied story, and terrible main villain.  I want the games to go back to being about story and character development which none of the recent FF games have had.

Maybe, just maybe, if FFXIII bombs they will realize they should actually start trying again and stop worring so much about 10 years of spinoffs. 

After all, we got the original Final Fantasy because Squaresoft was in danger of going under and that was to be their last hurrah.

 

i think what you want has already BEEN happening, while i do LOVE some FF games, i do think IMO that SE has a bit of a pompous attitude (maybe its all in my head) IMO i believe their switch to supporting the 360 more over the PS3 has to do with them trying to see if they can do for another console what "they did" for sony's PS 1 & 2, boy oh boy has it backfired just look at all their recent games.... its almost as if theyre not even trying anymore, im a bit iffy as of now with FF13 im just too damn tired of waiting for it, IMO western RPGs are taking over also....

I say let people have their shallow, over-stylized characters in cinematic after ridiculously expensive cinematic and grab yourself The World Ends With You for an experience which is deep, fresh and fun. Square can pump out as many computer-animated cartoons with bonus grinding as they like as long as they craft the occasional gem like this for me.

I do agree with you, however, that the spin offs are quite ridiculous and people need to stop buying them so that S-E actually starts developing games again not rehashes but with Wada at the helm, I don't expect any changes anytime soon.

 

Oh I believe there's blood, sweat, and tears put into the game but no real love. It's all about the money and all about pleasing the Cloud fanboys, not about actually making a decent game.

I actually think making Cloud a chick in FFXIII is a genius move from their point of view because now fanboys don't have to feel so bad about being in love with Cloud.

Hate much over a character? It's a character. Don't like Cloud? Good for you. Still won't change a lot of other peoples opinion. SOme people love FFVI, some love FFVII, some love VIII and IX. If you're mad that a lot of people agree that VII is the best one in the series, but you don't, is just sad to see you state that you not liking a game = shit and as a fact. Opinion pwns you

Oh, you again .. telling people what they should like and what they should not, what they should buy and what they shouldnt.

Dont worry though, it will not bomb. FFXII was amazing so the hype for XIII is quiet big. This game is a guaranteed success. And damn the game looks amazing.

I agree with the OP. Final fantasy 13 needs to bomb so square-enix looks back at what they've been doing for last decade and make another game with a amazing storyline and character development. For too long we've had to deal with shallow characters and boring storylines. It's time for a change, the fact that Lightning has been discribed as a female "cloud" makes me angry and does nothing but raise disappointment towards this game.

I have no doubt in my mind that even if this game is successful, many people will few this game as a shallow and pointless addition to a series that once has held great meaning but now is nothing but a shallow empty shell of it's former self.

Ya hear that? Return Final Fantasy to what it should be, Epic Storylines and Epic Characters.

I hate FF spinoffs. I loved FFXII. I have high hopes for XIII. I hope it doesn't bomb, in fact I hope all the crappy spinoffs and badly done new ips bomb.
