Forums - Nintendo - Wii Motion Plus performance on current games

It's likely that WM+ won't change the existing games, but in a way it actually could, depending on who does the processing on the IR data. If it's the Wii's OS as opposed to the game/SDK, it's possible they could update the pointing to use data from WM+...

If WM+ is precise enough maybe they could even eliminate the need for a sensor bar. They may do this for future games at least (at least the improving pointing precision part).

PS: Yes, I realize this is all speculation on my part, and not exactly likely to happen.

Not if you're Yoda...

Cha ching!

Well NJ5, it might be speculation directed at the Wii's successor. ;)

NJ5, no matter how precise it is, they won't be able to do away with using the sensor bar because the rotational direction (around the vertical axis) needs to be calibrated by pointing at something.

Up-and-down is OK because gravity does the trick, but side-to-side and round-and-round needs a reference point at least once, and if you were to solely rely on the gamer doing what he's told you'd get a lot of people complaining the control scheme was broken.

lol how did you play MP3? I mean have you tried not to swing the Wii mote all over the place? Just put your arm on your lap or on whatever makes you feel comfortable and move your wrist a bit…

Oh and no hardware can improve any game released prior to its release unless you download a patch that improves the game so it (in this case WiiM+) can have any effect on it or if the game was built with that kind of hardware in mind from the start.

I played it with my arm mostly extended, pointing at the tv. At least it's what made me feel confortable. Don't think limiting the movement to my wrist would.

Who wants to borrow me their Wii so I can try it out for a couple of weeks? ;p

That sounds tiring… you were most comfortable doing it that way? How do you play your PS3 then?

lol try holding a TV remote controller and move your wrist and tell me how that feels

You must look a fool extending your arm to the TV.

Anything that involves the cursor "jumping" around the screen is a set-up problem... perhaps the sun is reflecting off something shiny that you have by your TV, which the remote registers as a point of IR light. For instance I have to close my curtains to play Wii games that need the pointer if it is mid- morning, (6-9 am) because the sun shines on the buttons on my CD player which is below my TV.

However a seperate problem, also partly your fault is if you think extending your arm to aim is the best option..... If you have a go on a Wii again.... just go on the main Wii menu and play around with the hand pointer.... first try extending your arm and pointing.
This you should be able to do, but it takes concentration and effort to keep your arm still and point where you want.

Next try resting your elbow on something (if on a couch... sit forward and rest it on your knee, if on a bed like me... just put your arm down but lift your wrist off the bed)
This should make it much much easier to aim, because your elbow is steadied by what it is resting on, so you only need to keep your forearm and wrist steady.

Finally try resting your whole arm (if on a couch, sit back and rest it on your leg/armrest, or just put your arm down if on a bed)
This makes it even easier to aim than before, because the only thing that needs to move is your wrist, and after maybe 1 minute aiming is basically instantaneous.

That's not true, firmware updates can fix bugs and enhance performance among other things. But in this case you're likely right.
