I'm doing clinicals at the biggest hospital in town, and I've seen some very disturbing things.  FYI This hospital was ranked as one of the top 100 places to work in the U.S.  And ranked top 5 for Washington State.  We are studying labor and delivery this quarter, so it pertains to this subject.

I've heard many things.  I'll repeat only what I personally have seen.

1. I've seen a physician who wrote "You're fat.  Lose weight" on a woman getting a Vag Hyst.

2. I've heard a physician say "We all know you're in pain, you don't have to make so much noise" to a woman giving birth.  The he proceeded to tap his watch when she took too long.

3. There is a physician who will not give Vag Hyst patients pain killers because he believes that women don't hurt after the procedure, and that the are just whining.

4. I've seen a circumcision done without local anesthesia. It was the most brutal thing I've seen in real life.

Bottom line if you need a procedure/physician...  Find out what floor of the hospital you will stay on.  Example: All L&D's go to floor X.  Call the hospital and ask for floor X's nurses station, and ask for the charge nurse.  Ask her what physician she thinks is best.  Nurses are patient advocates, they won't tell you to stay away from, but they will tell you who to go to.

It's been several times now that I've had nurses completely fail at getting blood from mysef or my brother. After the 4th attempt of sticking the needle in me then they call someone "more qualified." I mean.... seriously?!

I find that the doctors and nurses in the US are seriously lacking in MANY areas.

Most hospitals do have specialists.  With no offense meant sir, but are you or your brother overweight?  It does make it alot more difficult if so.  If not, then she definitely needs more training.

Actually at the time I was dangerously close to being underweight, as is my brother, and it wasn't just one incident with my brother either. Though it's happened to me only once.

Well I don't know what the fuck to say to that.  A child could stick a vein that's popping out.  Maybe she was drunk.

This echoes stuff I've read about in articles. It takes a lot to scare me, but I've got to say this.. Hospitals freak me out.

Maybe I'm biased. Like vlad, I've had a 'new' nurse poke my arm with a needle, miss my vein, go at it AGAIN and painfully draw my blood which took way too long. The bruise I had the next day was UGLY.

The vein in my left arm is super easy to see too, I mean a two year old could stick it. I'm a track runner, not overweight or anything..

Anyway, that jaded me. Some doctors and nurses are just plain cold, which makes me wonder why they got into the medical field. Money? Prestige?

EDIT: I'm in Washington State as well.

Person 1: Does Valkyria Chronicles have trophies?
Person 2:  No.
Person 1: Forget it. I'm not buying it.
Person 2: Wait! It's amazing! Unique, charming, drop dead gorgeous... Hello?

I know.  I expected to see some things in my career, but not all that in 4 weeks of clinical.

Well good luck to you. Don't be afraid to call out BS.
