Forums - Website Topics - VGChartz Discussion in NeoGAF NPD Thread

Looks like there is some dissension in the ranks at NeoGAF in regards to VGChartz. It's near the end of the thread and I think that a lot of the regulars had moved on to different threads, but it seems that not all of the GAFers are happy with the apparent monopoly of NPD in the US, and lack of any World Wide sales tracking. I don't think that everyone is convinced but people are definitely taking notice. Quote: Man I hope ioi is able to someday gain 65% of the market, as the NPD has, (less than what famitsu has btw) & put the NPD out of the videogame tracking market due to their absurd prices & lying so we'll have what we've always had w/ Box Office sales, Nelson ratings, Vg sales from Japan, etc. - U.S. VG sales that don't cost $15,000+/yr! http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=183381&page=43

Around the Network

I wish ioi hadn't have fallen out with the NeoGAF folks. I think if he and they could see eye to eye, it would be possible that the two could increase the accuracy of the numbers and force the NPD to do weekly sales. A lot of industry heads look to NeoGAF, and Pachter often will give them props. I think VGC and GAF could shake up the industry, maybe come up with a website similar to Boxofficemojo, which serves damn near daily data for ticket sales.

NeoGAF seems to have themselves wrapped around the NPD group's finger, more or less, and while ioi supposedly managed to sort out his situation with NPD, he's not nearly as cooperative with what NPD wants, from what I've seen.

I like both places myself, but neither is perfect either. :)

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

I don't even know why NeoGaf matters.

From what I gather, ioi and NeoGaf admins got in a little fight and basically aren't talking any more.

I went to NeoGaf, but it just looked like some run-of-the-mill gamer forum. I'm just not seeing the relevance to them and VGChartz.

What? Is it because they prefer NDP numbers over ours? Sure. Let them believe what they want; just like we do. We can't shove our numbers down everyones throats if that's what this is about.

By life end:

  • Wii- 100 million+
  • Xbox360- 35~40 million
  • PS3- 30 million
  • PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
  • NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical)  - FAILURE
  • NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!

As vgc grows in popularity and accuracy, it will risk the buy-out-take-over. So, how much does ioi worth? :)
