You didn't bail Europe out in the world wars, you only ever got involved when it was clear you had to. It was a case of America saving America and nothing else. The Cold War was only ever really a war between the USA and Russia, Europe was largely proxy to the war.

In WWI the United States only became involved once unrestricted submarine warfare restarted, due to the sinking of the Lusitana it was politically nessecary for the USA to declare war in order to save face. They only joined nearly 3 years after the start of the war.
In WWII the USA obviously only joined after the attack on Pearl Harbour, once again it was nessecary (this time both militarily and politically) to join the war.
In neither case did they join the war in order to help their allies.
