Forums - Sony - Noby Noby Boy averages a 9 out of 10 in Gamestats!

Granted it's only 2 reviews, but it's mighty impressive from the little "WTF's this shit were they high when they made this game?!" that could. And it's not just 9s from any random reviewer, it's actually from well regarded and well known sites like ign and eurogamer. Yep quite the pleasant surprise from the little underdog.

Noby Noby Boy is going to provoke arguments for months between people who claim to Get It and people who don't, which is ridiculous because - in truth - there is nothing to get. Once you've accepted that, Noby Noby Boy becomes one of the most soothing, effortlessly playable things you've ever likely had the pleasure to experience. It's a surreal and simple sandbox with no hidden subtleties or complex underlying system of progress and reward, no contrived meaning. It's appeal purely lies with its gentle, happy-go-lucky lunacy, and that's what makes it so bafflingly absorbing. For slightly over £3, it's something everyone should try, especially as its emergent nature means that it will keep stretching and stretching our imaginations well into the future. It's just the sort of mad experiment that the PSN Store was made for, in fact.

Rating Description

9.0 Presentation
Simple, self-contained and gently insane. It's full of beautiful touches and tiny secrets.
7.0 Graphics
It's the physics rather than the graphics that got the most attention during Noby Noby's development, but its style is thoroughly charming.
7.5 Sound
Lovely acoustic noodling is the perfect accompaniment to the gameplay.
9.0 Gameplay
Controls take a while to get the hang of and the physics throws things off occasionally, but Noby Noby is ultimately effortless fun and uniquely engaging.
8.5 Lasting Appeal
It's extraordinary value for money, and it may be months till we see what new planets have to offer. There's also plenty of room for expansion in the future.

When artistically-inclined creators set out to do something different in the videogame "space" - like thatgamecompany's Flower, to take a recent and excellent example - they often start with the subject matter, the atmosphere, the style. They might create something that has the bones of a game, but the looks of a painting and the heart of a song - something that creates a different mood in the player.

Noby Noby Boy, released today for PS3 on the PlayStation Network, isn't like those other experiments. It's deeper, wilder, more unhinged, more radical - and more brilliant. It disposes with even the bones of gaming, reducing it down to its very core - the simple notion of play - and then elevating that to an art form. It doesn't just change your mood; it changes your whole frame of mind.

I hope you guys download this primarily to have fun, and also to reward devs for their creativity and originality.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

I wish I had more time to play videogames...damn you law school...

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Well it's only 5$ I will probably but it once I'm done Flower.

I'm not going to say it beats Braid, which was one of my favorite games last year (and will probably be the best downloadable game for a long time) but this game is amazing, and as out-of-the-box-disarming as Braid. It's funnier than Katamari, with pretty much every button you can press resulting in some kind of hilarity, and the randomly generated levels you play manage to be funny random, not aimless random. The tutorial is a quiz in which you try to guess what the controls are, poking some fun at the sometimes endless tutorials in games nowadays.

Nobi Nobi Boy is also an interestingly minimalistic version of a sandbox game -- the point of the game can't really be stated more clearly than "to play the game" because things like the timer in katamari have been taken out -- but the online leaderboards make it so that you are both cooperating and competing with everyone else in the world who is playing the game (right now Japan is kicking some serious A$$, but they got the game first so whatever). So in a sense, the challenge/reward system which all video games have is still there, it's just hidden away into one corner of the game, rather than offered up as your prime directive.

I watched my girlfriend play the game for a bit over an hour last night, and then (once she finally left the room!) played for about two or three hours myself. I can definitely see why the creator wanted to make this game after making a bunch of Katamaris -- because really, what was more fun in Katamari, mastering the timed levels, or getting so huge you could suck giant squids up from the ocean and pluck whole cities up like flower patches?

I had my doubts about this game, but people who repeated the mantra "it's by the Katamari guy" were right. That must have been some good shit.

What I find funny is that your Boy can split and to get back together again you have to eat your own ass, lol.

Not just that, but I have watched a couple of videos and saw boy shit out chickens, pigs and sheep.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

^Haha, I was able to split myself in half aswell.
Though I still don't know how...
It's a charming game.
I enjoy eating things.
I notice the boy grows larger after awhile aswell.

Havent touched my PS3 in almost 4 months......but I got to get this game.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I wasnt gonna bother with this game but if it keeps getting good reviews, I might buy it.
